Full Story Link "Anchorage (Alaska) – FBI agents are using proxy server logs to track down the hacker who broke into Sarah Palin’s Yahoo email account. The hacker gained access to the Republican Vice Presidential candidate’s account by resetting the password. He then posted details of his adventures up on a popular online forum, but that information is now leading reporters and federal investigators to the suspect – a Tennessee university college student and son of state democratic representative Mike Kernell." |

He illegaly broke into someone's personal email account and stole personal information...it may not be complicated...but it meets the defintion of "hacking". Computer criminals should be dealt with severly... A few years as a prison bitch would be nice in this case. |

I'm not arguing against the legal use of the term, its just that I still sounds weird to me - sorta like calling the that Malvo guy a "sniper" I guess. To me, hackers will always be the '80s computer geeks who understand arcane uses of code to sneak into the government comptuers and start WWIII. |

Have you read news regarding this? The kid was from 4chan. The thread's archived, so take a second to read it. He did the entire thing for the lulz then posted it on 4chan via screencaps. What happened to the emails after that ... who knows. The point I'm trying to make is that this eggheaded kid hacked her account for fun, not for a vast conspiracy which originated from DU or whichever democratic group arfcom has a hard on for that week. |

What he did was social-engineering. It's something hackers use, but not necessarily isolated too hackers. The fact he used it to breach a computer system is what brings up the hacker connection. |
I did read the posts on 4chan. He didn't do it for fun, he even stated in his posts that he was looking for something incriminating and didn't find anything AFTER READING ALL THE EMAILS! This was totally politically motivated. He wasn't just a "hacker having fun", he was trying to dig up dirt. No, I don't believe that Obama or his camp had anything to do with this, but to say that this was "just for lulz" is kidding yourself. Go read his posts again and it's pretty easy to see. |
