I am Sherrick's wife, I am writing a paper about it and I would like to hear what you all think. I think affirmative action is no longer needed because It does not give the people that is trying to help equal opportunity because they are giving minorities more opportunities than they can handle and it sets them to fail. Any other thoughts?

Affirmative action denies those it seeks to protect from competing as equals with those not protected. It is a slap in the face to those who wish to be proud of achieving by replacing hard work with a government mandated handout.

Affirmative action is simply another form of pandering engaged in by dimmocraps to buy votes from the very people they seek to oppress.

Your professor will LOVE that!

Affirmative action is an insult. What is really being told to blacks by affirmative action is that no matter how hard they work, no matter how much education they get, they will never be good enough and will always need special help from the libtards.

If I was black, I'd be mad as hell and offended to no end by affirmative action.

They never seem to include the 4.0 GPA Asians and Indians in their reports on how 'minorities' are doing terrible in school and why we have to give [minorities-(asians + indians)] extra consideration for college admissions. Wonder why that is...

Affirmative Action is racist shit favoring blacks and hispanics at the expense of everyone else.

Please explain.

My position is any parameter set that either includes or excludes, by race or sex, is racist or sexist.

Example: Women dont have to take their hats off in buildings. Sexist.

A set percentage of x race is need to do y. Racist.

You cant eliminate something by using it as a tool to eliminate itself.

By the way, the term AA is used quite freely, and like semiautomatic sniper asault rifle is usually a fallacy. AA is used in the .gov, but what kind of loser wants a substandard low pay .gov job? I have worked private sector after .mil/college, and only once had one Black coworker. All other times I was the only, and my race never helped or hurt, my job skills made me marketable.

Too often affirmative action accrues benefits to those who were never harmed at the expense of those who are not remotely responsible for the alleged grievance.  There is an entire class of citizens who nurture and preserve their aggrieved status and who will continue to do so unless and until we simply tell them they have to stand on their own merit.

2 people are studying to become doctors (let's say heart surgeons) one is black, the other white.  Final exams are over and the white intern (or whatever you call them) scores a 90% on his tests.  The black intern scores a 67%...BUT because affirmitive action is in place the black intern is selected for a job right away at a prestigious hospital to perform heart surgery.   While sitting here reading this you feel a sharp pain in your left arm and you recognize the symptoms of a heart attack.  You are rushed to the hospital and are told you have to have emergency heart bypass surgery.  You look over and you see Dr 67% looking at you.   Now how do you feel about affirmitve action racism?

You cannot prove that the black guy is going to do a worse job than a white guy. People I work with are proof positive that book smarts do not translate into high performance on the job. White guy versus white guy... 90% versus 67%... who do you want for the job?
Who do you want answering the phone at 3AM?
Who do you want cutting you open?

Black guy versus black guy, or white guy versus white guy, 90% gets the job.
White versus minority, 67% gets the job... whether he's capable or not, he is NOT the best man for the job. Period.

Equality means equality, not "here... you can have everything!"
Even if you didn't earn it, or are a lesser candidate.
Equal means 90% beats 67%, end of story. As it should be. White or black.

Yep, I agree. Usage of "AA" in the government tends to be for the low paying jobs. When an individual climbs the government ladder, it tends to get whiter as they go up.

City schools here, majority black, have nearly 60% dropout rate.

In the legal world it has led to outright discrimination.  The fact is that with affirmative action, people only care about results, i.e., do you have enough minorities.  No one gets credit for effort.  So all the big law firms will get their diversity, one way or the other.  It is so bad that in Dallas you can get a six-figure "finders fee" if you are a qualified minority and go over to another big firm.  Guess how well that would go over with EEOC if the races were reversed?

it's reverse discrimination.

I'm white and I was denied a law enforcment job because I was

A) white

B) not female

C) not gay

I was already a graduate of a P.O.S.T acadamy (college student) and got good grades.

if I was any of the protected class I would have been sent right to backgrounds to start my hiring process.

that's OK. I am now a working LEO and I did it the hard way...........I earned it.

so yeah, I know a little about discrimination, but affirmative action is just getting back at whitey for being self determined and working hard to achieve his goals.

Hi, Sherrick's wife - it may be more accurate to say it provides more opportunity than non minorities have access to...not that they can't handle it, but any group provided that much of an advantage would not be able to avail themselves of the odds for success.

And when you start categorizing people into groups, you create a precedent that is not capable of maturing over time, and soon every one wants to be a protected minority...soon enough, the people are just voting themseves "loaves and circus."

ding ding ding, we have a winner. you are going to see many different answers on this thread due to were people live. in the south a group of people(most NOT all) act like leaches and bring down entire cities, look at Atlanta for example, the south side. 20 years ago pretty nice place to live, now most communities are minority war zones. i lived in Minnesota fro 6 months when i got divorced in the early 90's i was shocked at how some people acted over than those in the south. i work with a parts manager that is a black guy and one of the nicest well spoken guess you could ever hope to befriend, he appolagizes when he gets embrassed by his like. Ford just dropped a program called Dealership Developement in june because it is a HUGE financial drain on ford. a dealership mostly in the south that has been a success is bought out by Ford then a "minority" is placed there, most are either out of business now or being bought back by ford and sold to anyone that can properly run a dealer or outright closing them due to the extreme lossess, i work at one of these now and we are looking at being closed, family owned since 1937 and a super money maker, in five years of this program with 2 different ford implants we are looking at closing due to lets say in a PC way "mismanagement". to me this program is state sponsored racism

If I said 'Hey HR make sure you hire a white guy for this position regardless of whether he's the most qualified' or 'Hey Admissions make sure you admit x% white people regardless of whether there are better students' then I would be called a huge racist and fired on the spot.  Substitute white with "black or hispanic" and suddenly we have a socially acceptable practice.

Strange how other minorities like Indians, Chinese, etc don't get this extra 'help' despite being far more outnumbered by whites than blacks or hispanics.
