Section of modular home falls from semi, snarls U.S. 63 traffic

STEWARTVILLE  Rush-hour traffic was slowed after a section of a modular home fell off a semitrailer on U.S. 63 South near the I-90 exit Wednesday afternoon.

Minnesota State Patrol trooper Eric Bormann said the piece flopped off the trailer, and part of it landed in the right turn lane. He said he wasn't sure how it happened.

No other vehicles were involved, and the driver of the semi was not injured.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation closed the road at 5:30 p.m. so that a crane could come in and hoist the section back onto the trailer. “MnDOT wants to wait until the rush-hour traffic gets through,” Bormann said.

The section of the modular home was one of five sections that were being hauled from Marshfield, Wis., to Rapid City, S.D. Workers on the scene believed that part of the house would be a complete loss. Bormann said it probably will be given away.

Southbound traffic was down to one lane for most of the afternoon.

Scratch and Dent discount?

It'll buff right out.

It's a mobile! Who cares or will notice?

Big discount on that one.  Caveat emptor.

Many years ago I worked for a company that financed the inventory for mobile home dealers.  I had to repo on of the accounts in eastern NC and was having half of a double wide moved to a secure lot.  The driver was pulling the trailer down I-95 and it was quite windy that day.  A gust of wind caught the home just right and blew everything off the frame onto the side of the road.  I think the only thing that remained attached was the toilet.

That is a modular home, big difference between that and a double wide.
