The title pretty much says it all. Sorry for the blury pic of the bush, but it is raining pretty hard outside.

Blurry picture of the bush they came off of.

The berries themselves.

Bleeding throat berries, try them and you'll discover why they are named that.

Pokeberrys.  IIRC, they are toxic.  The new poke shoots are good to eat though.  Ever hear of folks eating poke greens?

They do look just like poke berries. Thanks for the heads up on not eating them. I sure am glad that I ate only one, although with the way they taste I don't think I would have eaten too many more. Next time I am picking the little red berries out of my lawn, I will try and post a pic of those up to see if they will kill me.

The United States Declaration of Independence was written in fermented pokeberry juice (hence the common name 'inkberry')

I never knew that. They were all over the woods where I grew up, the juice from the berries will stain your hands pretty good - or your little sister's forehead.

Grandma used to eat one or two when she was "Backed Up".  Hope you've got some toilet paper handy, if you ate one.  And it will come out purple.

At my size it would take a lot more than a couple of these berries to do me in. Plus the fact that I eat whole habanero peppers to keep me extra resistant. I couldn't have felt the effects of the berry less.
