Get your groceries, especially canned goods.  Stock up on bottled water and medicine.  Then, LOCK AND LOAD.

Or else just wait and see what happens.

I filled up today at Cool Springs for $3.59/ gal.  It was already $3.88 across the street.  Later my wife tried to fill up and they cut off the pump at $10.00, barely 2 gal!

We still have some in Portland but it went from 3.62 yesterday to 4.29 this afternoon. Just screwing people.  Little country town and running out of gas, but in Old Hickory it was still 3.79 and plenty of it

Someone send those idiots a message that the hurricane is going to TX, not TN.
9/12/2008 5:08:35 PM EDT
[#16]
There were one or two stations in town that ran out, but they were also the ones that had the cheapest prices earlier this morning.  I guess people rushed out and filled up everything they had.

A co-worker called me on his way home, in Butler he said a couple stations were charging $5.29/gallon.  That's the kinda shit that makes me want to fling a brick through their window.
9/12/2008 5:08:56 PM EDT

I just filled up for $4.05. It was $3.85 this time last night, and $3.55 on Sunday.

$3.69 a gallon in S. Florida. No gas shortage here.

3.77 here and the gas stations still have fuel, and the tank farm still has trucks rolling in and out.   what the problem is?
9/12/2008 5:10:58 PM EDT
[#23]
All those idiots that thought I was wierd for keeping all those full 5 gallon cans set aside are eating crow about now.

Never hurts to have a few tankfulls in reserve.

Sorry if Im an idiot, I dont really stay tuned to news. But hasnt the hurricane not even hit yet? How could places very far from the refineries be running out of gas already? and if it was infact the hurricane causing this, wouldnt places much closer to the storm be running out sooner?
9/12/2008 5:13:41 PM EDT
[#27]
There are one or two here around Ft. Bragg that have run out...everyone is at $3.99/gal for regular except for one station that just opened today and is selling for $3.79/gal...but the line was out in the street so I said "screw it" and went down the road and paid $3.99...everyone is limiting to 10 gallons per person...I was on half a 16 gallon tank and managed to squeeze in 10 gallons, and I am glad that I have a locking gas cap!

FWIW, the reason why the prices shot up is because Ike is supposed to hit one of the major U.S. refineries/storage when it hits Texas.

Just put 18 gal. in about 3 hours ago at $3.69

Yeah, I remember that crap.

I joined the panic and filled up at $3.69 an hour ago.  It was $3.99 across the street and the MPD was directing traffic.

It will jump up to $5+ next week, then start working it's way back down.

Out here too.  Up $.6 in a 5 hour period.

Environmentalists fucked us over again.  We need more refineries!  You would think we would have learned 3 years ago.

we need to start off shore oil drilling

I took these about 2 hours ago - north of Charlotte, NC.. about 2/3rds of the gas stations were completly out, premium, diesel, everything.. those that weren't were selling for $4.50+ /gallon.

Yep..starting here in Louisiana too....nearest gas station to me is all out.

3.56 here in Austin, TX

For now at least

Yep, we definitely need more refinerys. When a storm knocks out 25% of the refining capacity of the US I think it's time to build more somewhere else.

The price is going up because there isn't any at the suppliers. However, I still think it's bull shit that it goes up .5 to 1.00 dollar a gallon over night.

$3.95 for 89 octane at a local BP not known for being the cheapest...  This was at a little after 9:00.  This is between Richmond and Charlottesville.

Yeah.  It'll come back down in a couple of weeks as well.  Still sucks.
