Sizeable cache of weapons, drugs uncovered in El Mirage

Following a lead from a traffic stop, state Department of Public Safety officers and El Mirage police on Monday night seized a sizeable cache of assault rifles and drugs at an El Mirage home.

Highway patrol officers conducted a traffic stop about 6 p.m. at an unspecified location, leading to the arrest a man for possessing drugs and weapons. The man's identity has not been disclosed.

Authorities said the man was cooperative and told police there were more weapons in El Mirage.
DPS conducted a consent search at a residence in the 12300 block of N. Palm Street, where they found and confiscated 10 AK-47 assault rifles, numerous bayonets, a small amount of marijuana and cash.

El Mirage police, who provided a detective for the case, helped with the investigation.

"It was a really good catch on DPS's part," said El Mirage Assistant Police Chief Bill Louis.
