Ask your buddy, he'll know.  Or he should.

why is that an issue?

Hmm..

If he has his C&R (03FFL) he can order it straight to his home address.  Why would he go through an 01 FFL for a transfer?

I think he wants to buy the rifle from the 03 FFL.

The story you want to stick with is he ordered the gun and it was lower quality than what he wanted for his collection so he sold it to you.

An 03 can get away with this every now and then as long as he doesnt go overboard.

Why would you need to transfer the rifle through an FFL if it's an in state transaction?

In other words...using a C&R FFL to purchase with the intention of reselling....is not allowed.

However...you can make occasional dispositions. You could also, in theory, buy two of a rifle, and determine which is better, and sell the lower quality one.

Or you could use TC6969's example. But be warned...the C&R is for COLLECTING. not reselling.

he would not be reselling, id pay for the rifle but would use him as a middle man and hve it transered to me through the ffl.  were both in md.  if its not legal no big deal.
