Like the title says, Is it legal for a non-resident to open carry a long gun in Indiana? Please provide the Legal Code if you can. p.s. I checked in the "Indiana Firearms Laws" Topic in the HTF and couldn't find it. |
Here's a pretty good sight |
That site says nothing about long guns. |

Most laws don't spell out what you can do, they spell out what you can't do. I can't find a single law saying I can eat sushi for breakfast, I doubt you'll find a law stating that you can walk around with a loaded rifle in public. What you will find however, are lots of "catchall" laws the police can use against you if they decide they don't like what you're doing. Disturbing the Peace, Inciting a Riot, Public Endangerment, etc, etc. Might want to ask around before that having that lovely experience of trying to tell a cop what the law is and being roughed, cuffed, tossed in the back of a police car and whisked away for a wonderful, all expenses paid night in the local greybar hotel. |

I'm pretty sure that even I would think you are insane if you did that. That's just asking for trouble, really. We carry loaded pistols for defense purposes, concealed, but I can't think of one good reason to carry a loaded long gun out in the open that isn't criminal. That's most likely how the police will see it, especially when someone calls it in. If the police get a "man with a gun" report, and it's you... even without seeing the gun you can pretty much guarantee a felony stop. If it's in plain view, things will go badly for you. |
