I hope I don't get caught by the "dupe police"..

It would be awesome if McCain picked him IMO...We shall see...Looks as if he is on the short list...And that would take the whole race (notice I didn't say black cause Obama is not black) thing out of the equation...

He would be a bad choice.  The VP has to be next in line for the highest office, and Powell will not be President.  If that were his goal he should not have participated in the Bush Administration.

I think Powell decided to "get while the gettin' was good" and is still seen favorably by the vast majority of Americans.

He'd make an excellent CINC, no doubt about that.

Remember Reagan's "Gorbachav TEAR DOWN THIS WALL" speach?  Colon powel, as a member of the state dept read that prior to Reagan delivering it at The Wall.  Colon advised Reagan not to.  Colon is as wrong now, as he was then.

The republican party should have at least one Republican on its ticket this go round.

That was actually I lie. Someone had a "guy" on the inside tell him that Powell was going there, but Powell emphatically denies it.

i wish he was running for POTUS instead. I think he would make a great VP.

And the Bush administration thing is not an issue since he left the Sec State job because he disagreed over Iraq. So he is not a tow the line guy.

Agreed.  If it was important to the Democrats to have a black man run for president, because he's black, did we mention he's black... Powell would have been the best choice.   While I don't agree with a lot of his politics, he probably would not be worse than Bill Clinton, and would actually bring some military restraint and thoughtfulness to the office that is lacking in almost every one of the Democratic contenders from earlier this year, and frankly a lot of the Republican ones too.

For example, I'd probably vote for D-Powell over R-Guiliani.

As I recall, his wife didn't want to deal with a Presidential run when was he at the height of his popularity. He's all American and part Irish, but we would have two career military men on the ballot...but the other side wouldn't vote for veterans anyway. Could be a good ticket!

Maybe in your mind.  I couldn't care less.  I don't expect everyone to endorse someone, and I don't give a damn if they do or don't.

Or do you think McCain is the best thing to happen to the Republican party since, well, ever?  My money's on no, and I bet Powell thinks the same.  Most of us do.

He donated to McCain's campaign, and he's keeping his personal opinions to himself.  God forbid the man would want to lead a somewhat private life.

Actually Powell's positions are almost identical to those of McCain with the exceptions that he isn't quite as green and he is a stronger supporter of affirmative action/minority pandering.

Yes and everyone who pays attention knows that... Powell should be ecstatic McCain is the nominee and instead he is dodging questions about it..

WHY no endorsement of McCain?

...................and he is a conservative capitalist with a doctorate in economics, extremely smart, and very well spoken and articulate.  He'd be a great choice but I fear he is of a better quality than would ever run for office in this country.
