This forum is awesome and has great info. But what is up with the search function? It really sucks compared to searches on other forums. It seems almost impossible to perform any kind of meaningful search.

The search function is the only thing I don't like about this site.

I've found it to be practically worthless.

I'd say 9 out of 10 of my searches come back "no result".

Glad I'm not the only one.

$24 a year buys you all the perks... plus enters you into drawings for free firearms.

You need to learn how to use the search function.

Also people need to use better thread titles.

I have difficulty with it as well.  I must be doing it wrong.

So, there's some super secret method to the Arfcom search function that makes it different then all others?

not that hard

WTF were you searching for?

The only problem I have with it is when Im looking for a specific post, or keyword in a thread.  Some message boards allow you to see individual posts with a keyword search.  It would be nice to use when looking through the feedback thread in the EE.

that is the most annoying thing about the forum.

This is true- I am a team member and it does suck.  The ability to search the post message body would be a big improvement.

Yep, it sucks.

Arfcom's search function is just short of useless. There are plenty of other places to find answers though so it's no big deal.

This does not encourage us freeloaders to pay up to access the search feature.

WTF common. Good example.
I've had best results with single word searches that are relevant to the interest at hand. Two words or more just don't work as well and that requires looking through thread titles to see if it's what I might be looking for. Variations of the word and synonyms might turn it up as well.
Mangled spelling and thread titles don't help.
Example for Colt Gold cup national match trophy might be a bunch of searches for Colt, gold, gold cup, cup, trophy, gcnm, match, national match... you get the idea. It's up to you figure out what is the most relevant word and narrow down results from there until you find what you want.
Yeah it's a pain, but it works. Most of the time, usually.

Hell, usually if you post just one word that has to do with the topic in the subject space you'll get the hit you want.

Use google to search Arfcom.

We've got a fast server and a huge membership to draw upon for answers, but it's almost useless for research because we don't have a full-text search.

Still worth the price of admission, but it could be so much better.

This.

I re-read "Most overlooked survival weapon ever?" constantly, wondering what this must-have gadget is.

If this subject was "Slingshot: Most overlooked survival weapon ever?" I wouldn't have read past the first post.

Oh, and everyone replying "pay to play":  the search function isn't worth even a Bronze membership :-P
