I have had sinus problems for several years now and just discovered the sinus rinse.  Sounds kind of gross, but a nice warm saline solution gently flushed into one nostril will flow out the other.  Blow nose, switch sides and repeat.  DAMN this feels good...I can breathe again.   Now if I could just get my girlfriend to buy and try I think it would help her with her allergies.

i use some warm H2O that i soak some chili peppers in for about 20min. strain water and do aline or 2. not only does it clear your sinus path, it also does a mild cauterization of the mucus membrane.

I learned of it here and have had only one sinus infection in two years. If I start to feel bad I just use it four or five times a day.

Netti Pots are the best. After you learn to use one you will wonder why you took so long. I use Sea Salt in mine.

Sooooo many people I know swear by them.  I'm sure my life would improve if I got one, but I swear, I just can't bring myself to do it!

I have been using one for the past year. It helps..

It takes a little getting used to, but it is well worth it!

It took me forever to buy one but I'm freaking glad i did now. You won't regret. And $20 isn't THAT much.
And you have to use it at least five times to get used to it. The first couple times I hated it.

I bought one several months back when I was really sick. It flushed the nastiest shit out of my nose. They're well worth the $11 bucks or so that they cost. I really haven't gotten down using it as a science though. Sometimes It always seems to make me want to gag.

If I could offer a dissenting opinion, I had a nice stainless neti pot for a couple of years.  I followed the instructions and the video, cleaned it religiously, used it daily.

I got some of the worst sinus infections of my life that took forever to clear up.

Sorry guys, the neti pot is great for you but didn't work for me.

I stick to saline nasal mist spray now and haven't had a problem since.

I use the squeeze bottle version when my sinuses start acting up.

I must have grown up in a cave, because this is the first I've ever heard of a netti pot. I can't believe people actually do that.

I just take regular table salt.
Put quite a bit in a little water.
Stir till it dissolves good.
Take straw and snort it till you taste salt in the back of your throat.
Almost painful, but it really clears you out.
Dont know what a nettie pot is.
Anybody care to explain it ?

I've used several kinds off and on over the years.

Now I just use one of these

I use one before I go to bed every night...

Helps a lot. I get a much better rest when I can breathe thru my nose

protip: don't just pour it in there....actually inhale a little a few times....it will draw the solution into the rear of the sinus cavity where the good stuff resides.

It feels like you're waterboarding yourself, but it's worth it in the end

hum, my GF just started using one two weeks ago or so, and i think its hilarious.. guess shes not the only one that looks like a dork pooring a teapot into their nose..

I should probably get one as I have bad allergies.

I've used one for a couple of years and love it.

My only complaint is that no matter how much I blow my nose after using the pot, there's always some of the rinse that's way up in my sinuses and will come gushing out when I least expect it

I used to do this when my nasal passages acted up.

I just eyeballed a 0.9% saline solution (using table salt and tap water).  It usually better to err on the side of too much salt rather than too little (too little HURTS!!).

I tipped my head back and poured the solution into each nostril.  You have to push your palate up to stop the solution from flowing down your throat.  You can do that by pretending to talk in a nasally voice.

You can get quite a lot of solution in your nasal cavity (50 ml or so).  Then I pinched my nose shut and rotated my head in all sorts of directions to fill the sinus cavities.

Like other have said, it feels GREAT.  It loosens up all the crap and you can blow it out with ease.

If you use too much salt (so the solution has more salt than your blood) it acts like a decongestant too.  Instead of using a 0.9% saline solution, use 2% or so.

Saline nasal rinses work great for getting out allergens, and also have helped with reducing sinus infections.  The wash flushes out much of the infection, instead of letting it sit up there and fester.  I wish had discovered sinus washes years ago.  They are definitely the best way to get rid of excess magic nose goblins.

I use a NeilMed squirt bottle every morning.  I mix 100 g non-iodized salt, 33 g baking soda, and 1 gallon of non-chlorinated water.  I find iodized salt to be much more irritating than non-iodized salt.  I use 240 milliLiter of that every day.  Works great and it is cheap.

I love mine, and swear by it.  I used to get frequent sinus infections, even had surgery to open my sinuses up.  That didn't help nearly as much as my discovering a netti pot ( recommended by a Dutch friend, I think that's where they were invented).

Best damn thing ever.

I'm considering it.  I use a CPAP at night and it really dries me out.
