joined the NRA after taking my CCW class.thought it would be a good idea since somewher down the line they probably helped in my ability to have that privilege(along with other local groups).that was a month ago.Today I get my welcome package.dear_________,thankyou for your support, were really busy with the 2008 elections coming up blah, blah, blah"would you care to send a SPECIAL CONTRIBUTION?"
Oh,by the way here is your NRA hat ,hot off the Chinese sweat shop table!

So,my question is-where's my membership card(if they give them)and was I expecting to much from them being a new member?

maybe I'm way off base, but I had to look at the packaging to get my membership number.I'm also pretty sure they could have found an American company to produce the National Rifle Association hats

NOT TRYING TO BASH THEM-just wondering if they welcome everyone this way (asking for more money in their very first letter)

You will get your card eventually.  You can also ask to be put on the reduced mailing list.  And everything is made in China now, didn't ya know?

The NRA is going to ask you for a lot of donations.

If you can afford to give them something, then do so.

If you can't or don't want to, then don't and don't feel bad about it.

My life member leather jacket is made in China but it is actually a very nice jacket.

Yes, they ask for money from time to time. Or, you could email them and ask them not to send you such things, and they won't.

If you ask me your joining was long over due. If you are a team member on ARFCOM and not a NRA member, then I think your priorities are a bit mixed up.

If you have had enough of NRA's solicitions, ask to be on the "no call/no mail" list.  They'll honor it.  The NRA is a great institution.

I joined almost a year ago and received nothing from them, they just took my dues.  I tried multiple times to get a card, magazine, something that was promised.  I spoke to at least 3 different people and as many promises that the situation would be rectified.

Some months later I finally gave up. I never received any of the promised "benefits".

yes,it was over due. To my defense I am just getting back into this hobby and my Arfcom membership has cost me around 6-8 thousand dollars just on the "get both" philosophy. So now that I have both of a few different items (and buying a damn boat) I'm catching up on my memberships to the appropriate orginazations!guilt is a sumbitch!

For the newbie NRA members, the NRA is financially composed of 3 parts, the non-profit NRA(which all of the dues money goes), and non-tax deductible NRA/ILA(Institute for legislative Action, lobbying), and NRA/PVF(political victory fund, contribution to various political candidates). If you can break away some bucks, it would be to a good cause. The NRA is mostly pretty careful on how it spends its scarce resources. Remember we are having national elections in a few weeks.

Life NRA member 20 years.

Not true. There are websites dedicated specifically to showing us where to buy stuff made in America.

Im with the OP on this.

I've had at least two cards get messed up in the mail, like envelop ripped open, card missing a chunk (obviously from an automatic sorter not liking the thickness of the mailer it was in), etc.  And it takes like 2mo to get your membership card for some reason.

I receive about two letters a week asking me for money. One from the PVF and one from the ILA. I cant remember the last election that I received this much mail from them about.

I sadly admit that I have been out of the loop for way too long.

When was this tool a board member?

If he was the only nra big-wig pulling stunts like that, it might actually be forgivable for the group to ignore it.  However, far to many 'officials' SUCK.
