Is it racist to make a movie called "Black Men Can't Read" but not racist to make a movie called "White Men Can't Jump"? Both are rediculous in the absolute sense and are provably false stereotypes. Is one okay and the other "racist"? Both seem rediculous to me.

What culturally-induced standard is being adhered to in that case?

your racist.  racists always use logic and common sense to prove their bigotted points

did you see the movie?

Because that movie mocked cultural stereotypes.  If there was a movie called "black men cant swim," about a black olympic swimmer, the only people dumb enough to call it racist (sure there would be some) would be those that haven't seen the movie.

I see your point but IMO that's a bad example.

I learned in my African American Literature class that African Americans cannot be racist because their biases are justified by slavery.

Yeah they took some pretty good swipes at Wesley Snipes' character's showboating, hotdogging style of basketball

I learned the same thing in my African American studies class from my female African American professor who would routinely spend the entire class berating the white males in the class about how everything was our fault. Thank God the New York state liberal university system allowed my the opportunity to be educated.

Racism is a lot like the answer to the question X divided by 0.

My insistance on dwelling in the unpopular world of reality will preclude my participation in this thread. Some truths are violations of the CoC, if stated....but most of us with two working eyes are well aware of what those are anyway.

And...the original example, as mentioned, was a poor one, in illustrating a rather glaring double standard we've all grown numb accepting on behalf of the "oppressed" among us.

Do you think a movie called "Black Men Can't Read" would not be hugely controversial regardless of the content of the film itself?

With the "White Men Can't Jump" film, everyone I know chuckled at the title without ever having seen it or having any idea of what it was about. It was just so absurd. And no, I've never seen the entire thing, only bits and pieces because it combines two of my least favorite things...basketball and Woody Harrelson.

Woody Harrelson is a lot more tolerable than that Rosie Perez chick. Her voice makes me ill.

Congrats on the degree.

Do you think one title is inherently more rediculous than the other?

in all honest if I was to see a movie with a title like that I would think that Michael Moore had something to do with that production. he got me once with Bowling for Columbine and I vowed never to be fooled by him or any titles like that.
Basically they are all equally ridiculous, if you are asking...

I'm not a racist, I hate verybody, but especially whinning minorities about how there ancestors were forced into slavery. I'll give them a reparations check but first I'm taking the price out of it for the boat ride here plus infaltion over the yrs. LOL, then they would owe money...

Before I write that "boat ride" check can I deduct for the time and frustration that when into decoding your fucked up spelling?
