My family has two old GM cars from the late '70s and early '80s.  You know, the ones where you can easily break the steering column near the ignition to start fairly easily.

About ten years ago some company was advertising a hinged steel device several inches wide that wrapped around the column near the ignition and locked on the other end to make it hard to access the ignition area.  I was wondering if anybody has seen these and where they might be available.

I don't know if this will help but try calling around some NY or NJ auto shops or accessory stores. I worked in a shop in MD for some time and I only saw those on out of state car/trucks from those two states.
My east coast opinion.

E1 hit the nail on the head.  They are regularly carried in NY/NJ auto parts stores and most department stores with and automotive section.

I think I originally saw the product profiled in Car Collector magazine of all places, but I can't find the issue to find a company name.  Internet search has been hopeless so far.

BTW, why would anyone in NY or NJ need a device to stop thieves from breaking into the ignition of their cars?[:D]

And it's right there on South State St. in Chicago.  A visit to J.C. Whitney is an experience not soon to be forgotton.
