What do all of you Navy sub folks think of the Military Sea Lift Command taking over the Submarine Tender ships and manning them with civilians? They are cutting the current manning in half and using a hybrid GI-Civilian crew on the USS Emory S Land with Frank Cable following suit in 2009. Is the Navy suffering logistic support loss just like the AF? |
In my opinion yes. We need destroyer tenders again. We need all .mil submarine tenders. Where will our Sailors go to work and learn and get expertise at doing intermediate maintenance? Used to be they went to tenders and SIMA. Then they went back to the ships and shared that knowledge with their shipmates. This is an extremely short-sighted move, IMO. |

Short sighted.... Imagine what those Civil Servants on the Frank Cable will get paid. The Guam wage rates are silly low compared to Hawai/Alaska. The Navy stands to profit millions a year on paper in wages.....until they lose all hands at sea with nuclear weapons aboard a sub....or two...or three. The standards are lowering yet again and the Democraps haven't even gotten to office yet. |
