What do you use? I was first thinking of the usual Quicken or M$ Money, but found a few Opensource apps such as Money Manger Ex and Gnucash. What does everybody use? I don't mind spending cash if it's going to save me time/money overall. Thanks. |

I use MS Money. The software you use is way less important than your dilligence in using it. You have to account for every penny you spend. Do that and any of them will be fantastic. Get sloppy with tracking your spending and the whole thing turns into a giant waste of time. |

I use Quicken Basic. It works fairly well although it doesn't automatically link into my 401k (our company does not use a well-known provider). You can set up custom categories for income/expenses, like "Guns and Ammunition" and "Alcohol". At the end of the day you can see pie charts and the like of what proportion of your money goes to those categories. It's a bit sobering when you see how much is spent on those two categories. |

I use quite a few products depending on the client and need at hand. I have been fairly happy with quicken - for personal use. I have never really liked microsoft. There are a couple good jokes around our office about msmoney - they are dated, so I doubt you will see the same things on the current version. Instead of an Income Statement or statement of Profit and Loss, or Revenues over Expenses - ms money called theirs "where did my money go". In the help it also said - "Now you can make an adjusting entry like a real accountant". |
