Meth cooks are getting the propane tanks from the exchanges at Wal-Mart, Kroger, gas stations, etc. They are filling them with anhydrous ammonia (which is used in their meth recipe). After they are finished with them, they return them to the store. Anhydrous ammonia is very corrosive and weakens the structure of the tank. It can be extremely dangerous when mixed with propane and hooked up to our grills, etc. hould the valve areas. If it is present, refuse to purchase that one.' If you suspect you already have one of these tanks, don't touch it. Notify the fire dept, DEA, or HazMat Emergency Response Unit immediately for disposition. Sounds like a bit of a reach, but Snopes' verdict is "undetermined" That's why I buy my tanks. This way I don't have to worry. They're pretty cheap at Lowes or HD. At this point, they cost about the same as a fill. |
Actually, the local news did an expose on the swap-out LP places around here. The swap-out tanks were generally 75% filled. If you take your own tank to the gas station they will fill it closer to 100%. |

If you get an email with "FWD FWD FWD: SEND THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!", just go ahead and delete it. Chances are it originated here. And Snopes is your friend, noob-GD is not!

 Quite an astounding revelation, considering you can't fill tanks with an OPD over 80% anyway, so 75% is probably just a close estimate. Tanks with an OPD (any tank you buy or swap has one these days) can NEVER be filled to 100%. |

GT.....i did check snopes.....I'm an IT manager, i get over 2000 emails a day....this is the first time i have ever seen this issue. To all the flamers on this topic, i've seen dupe's posted on other locations....the difference is ya'll didn't flame the dude who posted it. You should try to be a little nicer to "noobs" as you like to call us.....I may not have 10,000 posts, cuz i don't post tag....bump and other crap...but i've been reading the site for over a year..... if this is how you are going to treat "noobs"....you may not have any new members. Why don't you put it on the moderators.....if they have to approve the posts, before they are posted....they should delete any of the obvious dupes, especially in GD. |

Maybe you should use your IT manager kung-fu and recalibrate your spam filter. I have mine cranked down so tight that I don't even get an occasional "free viagra" spam and I've still seen that BS email half a dozen times in the last year. And if the mods were solely on dupe duty, rather than the forum being pretty much self policing, there would have to be an army of them, all with an individual methamphetamine drip. If you've been here a year, you should pony up the 20 bucks and buy a membership-then you can search the GD and learn from the last fool who posted a forwarded email as gospel truth... |

100% of full for a current propane tank is really 80% by volume yes. Thank you for explaining it for everyone here, as it can be confusing. (ie if they only filled a tank 50% by volume it would really be more than half of a "full" fill.) |
<breaks out the 10-key> Assuming you work 8 hours a day, that's 250 e-mails per hour or 4.17 e-mails per minute. If you work 12 hours a day, that's 166.67 e-mails per hour or 2.78 per minute. That's a lot of e-mail.
