Say on one sheet you have two columns.....one with names, the other with job title.

On another sheet you also have two columns, again one with names, and one with their certification status (yes or no)

Lets assume that regarding the names on each sheet, there are some of the same people (basically, you have some of the same people in both groups of data)

What formula could be used to look at both sheets and locate people who appear on each?

I am looking to take two different data sets and identify duplicate entries common to them both...the difficulty im having is that the search criteria is text, not a number.

For numerical values I always used a basic COUNTIF conditional format.
What do I do for text?

thanks in advance if you know the answer

You can still use countif to count occurrences of text.

If you are not REQUIRED to do this with a marcro..........

Maybe you could reference the 'name' column in one sheet to the  'name' column in the other sheet, then play with Autofilter.

There must be some resason  you don't want to combine it all on one sheet and if necessary hide a column or two when printing.

Cause if it were all on one sheet (one row per person), sorted by name, you could use Autofilter to display records with nonblanks in the title column and nonblanks in the certification.   That might also work with the referencing concept.

Sometimes a not-so-elegant solution is quicker than a fancy one.   I did a lot with cutting, pasting, sorting and filtering.  Subtotals, too, though I found that sometimes difficult to manipulate for my own oddball purposes.
