Heh. I was digging through an old box of games not too long ago and I found my copy of Aces of the Deep (submarine simulator) on floppy...27 floppies... That was a serious pain in the ass to install back in the day. That's when I spent the big bucks to buy a Soundblaster 16 box set that came with an amazingly fast 2X(!!!) CD-ROM drive. Smokin'. I also had a state-of-the-art 14.4K modem on that bad boy! ETA: That was only 16 years ago. Wow. |

I was using a Dos/WfW everex laptop up until about 2005 when its HDD finally gave up the ghost. It had one meg of ram and a monster 60MB HDD. I wasn't using it for much, it ran crosstalk, and booted to DOS in about 10 seconds, was perfect for a terminal emulator in a trans or switch room, and much easier than pushing a VT100 and its cart around. |
