A massive terror operation has been planned and simultaneous attacks all across the nation are carried out during a major holiday.

The terrorists have managed to make airborne versions of ebola, tuberculosis, and smallpox and, along with ricin and sarin, have released them over several major cities using crop-dusters.

Authorities have also announced that someone has contaminated the water supplies for several major cities with an unknown chemical agent. No one has stated whether or not the filtration systems make the water safe to drink or not.

Many cities have been attacked with explosives knocking out power stations, several bridges were blown up, and chemical weapons (chlorine gas, sulphur mustard, phosgene, lewisite, more sarin and ricin, and even a limited amount of VX nerve gas) have been used in malls, subway stations, and schools. Snipers have targeted city officials, police, paramedics, and firefighters, but are also content just to shoot random civilians. Several schools, churches, and college campuses have also been attacked Beslan-style, with anywhere from one to a dozen terrorists armed with machine guns and explosives killing teachers and students and taking others hostage. Airports and seaports have also been attacked, as have several refineries and nuclear power plants. Several military bases have been attacked by terrorists using mortars and home-made rocket artillery.

Finally, a low-yield nuke was detonated in a ground-burst in Washington, D.C., though it did not kill most of the nation's leadership. The bomb didn't do a lot of damage since it was on the ground, but radioactive fallout is a definite concern.

This sophisticated attack appears to be a joint operation between several nations (the suspects include Syria, Iran, China, North Korea, Venezuela, Russia, and Cuba, but no one knows which, if any, of those nations is involved at the moment.) and all attacks occurred simultaneously, starting just before noon. We'll say it took place a few days before Christmas since that's basically the holiday around here and would have lots of people out and about in public shopping. Snipers, active shooters, and other attacks continue to occur sporadically.

This is all live news and happening all over the nation. If you live in a major city, then your area is subject to just such an attack. The attacks started just before noon. It is now three in the afternoon and this is the first you have heard of it (been at home all day with the radio and tv turned off, not surfing Arfcom). Landline and cell phones don't seem to work because the systems have either been damaged in terror attacks or are overloaded with people attempting to call each other.

What do you do?

I'd go buy a lottery ticket, because my odds of winning are roughly the same as those of such a plan evading western intelligence sources all the way to the point of execution.

ETA:  But if I were to play along, I would execute my bugout plan, part of which is to continually monitor the media to find out how local authorities are responding.

No, I just combined several Arfcom "what if" terrorist scenarios into one massive attack. Then I figured the only way someone could pull off an attack that complicated and massive would be if it were organized, funded, etc. by one or more governments.

Suicide bombers, shooters and nerve agents would keep people from gathering in large numbers in public, which would keep the viruses from spreading.  The nuke was low yield and didn't decapitate the government. You're scenario could be way way worse.

I'd bug in and wait for it to blow over.

A thought-out response.

A worse scenario would be the one in the Weapons of WWIII thread with full-blown nuclear war, with a little chemical warfare thrown in for good measure.

Same as the last time they attacked before GW put them goomers on the run!!

Seriously, I live in the country 5 miles from a nuke plant with active defenses and have an unlimited supply of fresh water.  I have wood to burn to boil that water and plenty of fish and game available nearby.  I'll wait for the chaos to subside then rise on the town square.

I shall say " Would you be a knight who'd follow a king "? and to those who say yes, I'd say " then follow me"!

I would then secure my kingdom and wait to see what happened.
