Good lord, Cut this state into smaller states. I drove from Austin to Phoenix tonight. My halfway point was still in Texas. 15 hour car ride with a crying baby. What a crappy way to spend fathers day. By the way. someone needs to go clean up all the dead deer on the side of the road.

I drove from San Diego to Knoxville once.  I swear to god I though I was gonna grow old before I got through Texas

Nice people at the gas stations though, I must have had to stop at 12 of them

What was the halfway point, El Paso?

it's a heck of a haul, up 10.  I went from Bakersfield to Austin with a stop to sleep a little east of El Paso.

Actually I liked Texas. I might move there. Where would you suggest moving too?

It would be IMPOSSIBLE to keep the dead deer off of 290 between F-burg and I-10.  They are WORST around Harper.

And cutting it into more states would shorten the distance?

Quit your bitching, from I-10/290 to El Paso, the speed limit is 80 MPH during the day.

Yes... We do... Through the spotter scopes...

And while we could, in theory, break the state up into several smaller states (we are allowed to under treaty... Can't remember off the top of my head, but I think it's seven), do you really think the Democrats would let us do that? That would give us 14 Senators... And since breaking us into sub-states would doubtlessly sort the San Antonio and Houston democrats into, at most, two states, that would leave 10 Senators from lesser populated areas or Dallas (which would probably be borderline conservative)... It'd be a slaughter for the Democrats on the hill.

I just did a 36 hour turnaround to NorCal. COULD I have driven....I guess so. (its only 7ish hours by car each way) Do i want to do that? HELL no.

I'm much better with a one hour flight, including cocktail service.

Austin or San Antonio areas can be very nice.

I live in Dallas/Ft.Worth area and it's not my favorite part of the state but there are lots of jobs and people and traffic and smog and crime, etc.

Only good thing about Houston area is it's huge so lots of stuff just like D/FW area, but it's close to the ocean if you like to go boating and fishing.

Anywhere south of I-20 and West of I-35 would be OK depending on what you like.
Desert, Hill country or coastal areas?

Lot's of folks like eastern TX but it's not for me, too many trees.

I just got back from the North part of the Hill Country, around Burnet and Llano. It's my favorite part of the state, except for the Gulf Coast (Port Aransas & Padre Island).

If I could not live in TX my 2nd choice would be AZ.

What do you do for a living?

Good luck

Not anymore... Austin is overrun with ultra-leftards from Seattle and San Antonio is overrun by California-transplants the new generation of illegals... Get away while you still can.

Heck, locking pocketknives are illegal to carry in San Antonio... What's that tell you?

Agreed on both points.

Lay off of San Antonio,   I live in the Hill Country, but work in Downtown San Antonio.  Hell, everyone has a locking pocket knife.  The only time you get busted for that law is if you leave it in someone.  As for the liberal thing, it is in pockets, granted they are large pockets; but it is mostly fooling with boundaries so that the "minority" vote is not diluted.

And I thought the reverse while driving across Arizona a few years back. So that may be good reason to stay out of Houston.

I live here too you know.

Near the intersection of Bandera Road and 1604 myself.

Doesn't change the fact some of our wonderful progressive city councilmembers made it a misdemeanor.

That's most of it... And it still effects me. The people are good (well, except some of the aforementioned California transplants), but the tendencies of the leadership still has an impact on my life... And often times their tendencies are not ones I find favorable.

I may move outside the city limits in the near future.
