DoS attack or just updating their page?
6/6/2008 10:18:47 AM EDT
[#20]

I bet it isn't DoS. that's a server error (http packets, so it could be a switch or something).  someone is getting fired over that.  guarantee.

edit: it could be DoS, but whenever I've seen anything close to that it has been from bad code on the server.

They can't handle shipping cost increases appropriately. They are working on a new algorithm for that. See you at $150 a barrel.

Still down for me.

Its a concern if its a "haxor" as they've got LOTS of credit card numbers, including mine.

It should be ok for a hacker to get all the CC numbers.  They should be encrypted.

I buy a LOT of books from them and have an order outstanding still.  Pretty odd, I'd say.  Never seen this happen with them....oh well, they'll get it fixed.

Doesn't do anything for me.   Depending on your cache settings it may fetch a copy from your explorer or firefox cache., but the site is most certainly DOWN.

Re:  teh credit cards being encrypted.   Sure they are.   But if the haxor has obtained root access, he can surely access the software or memory area where the card numbers exist in cleartype.

apparently amazon started taking preorders for the ps3 80gb new metal gear solid game bundle. but i doubt that would knock the site out, lag it yes, but not down completely. they definently have a huge network outage.
