I believe my text book is wrong where it talks about handgun crime and that the Brady Bill was responsible for 400,000 denials of purchase.  I thought the NRA mandated the background check to get around the Brady waiting period only.  Any help would be greatly appreciated because if it is wrong, I'd love to bring it up in class and get people to write letters to the publisher.

You may want to ask to see how many of those 400,000 deinals of purchase turned out to be valid, and of those how many were actually prosecuted.

If you get the right answer, you'll quickly learn just what a waste the law was, which is why you'll never get the right answer.

I don't agree with the law and think it is a waste however I'd like to attack the points they make.  Most of the mention of firearms in the book have not been slanted until this chapter, more than halfway through.

I believe that they also counted "delay" (most of which just expire) as being denials for the purposes of that statistic even though the purchaser eventually got their weapon.

IIRC, the compromise may have been that the law would only apply to those states that did not already have a waiting period....

Florida had 3 days for a handgun, so the BB did nothing.

My memory is WAY rusty, though.

The nra has found no need to question this bill, how dare you.

The ex-president of the nra said the bill did nothing.  Who are you to question such wisdom?

Ironically, I'm an NRA member.

Well then if you can get the attention of your leadership (try waving a check) ask them.  You're a tad late to as the president though, he has recently assumed room temperature.

No confusion at all.  The Brady Bill caused an increase in guns stolen from homes and gun stores.  Very few people have been arrested as a result of the Brady Bill.  Lots of people who should have passed the NICS have been denied their rights under the 2nd Amendment, and later were able to get their gun.

Criminals are hardly affected by the Brady bs.

Only the good upstanding citizens are affected by gun laws.

I'm glad to see the professor has a good view of gun controls as bullshit and that micro stamping and ballistics are bullshit.
