I have been having nightmares every night for about the last two weeks. The nightmares are different every time and i have been having several a night. A typical nightmare for me consists of fighting zombies, fighting vampires, or engaging in gun battles etc. Normally I would consider these activities entertaining, but they are terrible and draining in my nightmares. I am always fighting in my dreams, and most of my dreams have involved extensive use of firearms. The nightmares have been wearing on my mind, and my sleep has suffered as a result. Before these two weeks i would have a nightmare that i remembered every few months.

Does anyone have any information regarding the causes of nightmares that could help me?

and

Arfcom, I want to hear about your most memorable nightmares

I have a recurring dream/nightmare where I have a throbbing toothache. It spreads to more teeth and the throbbing gets so bad that my teeth shatter or fall out.

Lucky SOB!

Only dreams I can remember are either gunfights or dreams where I come THIS close to having sex, but I wake up before insertion

Zombie
To dream that you are a zombie, denotes that you are physically and/or emotionally detached from people and situations that are currently surrounding you. You are out of touch. Alternatively, it may indicate that you are feeling dead inside and are simply going through the motions of daily living.

A lot of the time the trigger on the gun i am using is extremely difficult to pull. I have to put all of my strength into pulling it and thus i cannot aim very well. I have had zombies bearing down on me and i can barely pull the trigger of the gun. I have been shot in the head and killed during my dreams and I have felt my body riddled with bullets from a machine gun. It is not a pleasant experience...

It's wierd you mention it, because I've had the same dreams where the trigger pull was monstrous, or when I pull the trigger the gun doesn't go off.

I hope you get it worked out, it sucks to wake up freaking out because your dream was so real.

This is going to sound weird, but when I exercise regularly, I either dream well or don't dream at all. When I'm out of shape or sick I get some trippy-ass nightmares.

Maybe an exercise regime could help?

I've heard that the 500 pound trigger syndrome in dreams, is a lack of confidence in your guns in real life.

Its funny, before i had any real experiance with my handgun, i would dream with it sometimes, and go figure.... couldn't make the thing fire no matter what.

After a lot of practice, and a newfound sense of confidence, the thing will blast zombies with me just saying BANG!

I cant say anything for nightmares though.

Last night I ran and hid from the government as though I was a Jew in the Holocaust. Fucking sucked, everything kept getting darker and darker until I couldnt make things out, and everything kept getting heavier. Finally fell over and woke up before being promptly executed.

Anyone else only have dreams were its always night? I don't think I've ever had a dream were it was day time in it.  This is kind of sad but in a lot of my dreams something will happen to my gun like the trigger will be to hard to pull or have the wrong ammo stuff like that. Then of course I'm unable to defend myself so I try to escape and always end up falling off some cliff or something(I always fall to my death) Then I wake up like some one electrocuted me. Man I'm glad I almost never dream anymore.

I have similar dreams as the OP. About the best way to describe them is Hell on Earth and there is a price on your head. I have had them for years. They are very graphic, real, and rather disturbing. Sometimes it takes me the better part of a day to shake them off.

Just figured I was loosing my mind.

ETA:

I have had the hard trigger pull dreams too. Haven't had any in some time. Mainly if the dream focuses on guns, the problem is that I usually run out of ammo. This usually leads to seeing/feeling my own violent death in the dream.

I had one nightmare of me walking down to an IED in bombsuit, I woke up in a cold sweat.

The only other in recent memory was a nightmare of a thermonuclear blast, I seem to recall I could see the RV streaking in and I jumped into a deep ditch, then a sudden flash.  I could feel the heat, then a second or two later the shockwave came by and I remember  gripping onto something for dear life hoping not to be sucked out of the ditch.  I was also thinking about my wife and son who were not with me.  That dream also was so real I woke up in drenched in a cold sweat.

Here's my recurring nightmare.

Something happened, I think an IED went off. It starts off with me temporarily dazed. As soon as I recover, I feel a sharp pain in my neck, so I instinctively put my hand over it and apply pressure. I can't breathe. I can feel something warm running down my shirt, so I look down and see that I'm soaked in blood. My breath is running out. I look up towards the sky and I'm surrounded by my buddies. They are just standing there, frozen, looking down on me. I try to scream, "Help me you idiots, just don't stand there," but I can't speak or move. Their facial expressions tell me that there's no point trying to treat me, I'm done for. That's when everything starts to fade and I wake up.

I have this dream quite often and I have complete confidence in my duty weapons, so I am not sure what causes it for me. I agree with the OP it is an extremely strange and draining experience. I am glad that I only have these dreams once every few months or so.

One thing that has seemed to help me with dreams is trying to go to bed the same time every night.

I see what you did there.

My typical dream is that I'm patrolling and all of a sudden all hell breaks loose and I have to use my weapon. My shots are reaching their targets but having no affect.

In another dream I'm minding my business in a public location and all of a sudden a gangbanger gets the upper hand and kills me. Before everything goes completely black I force myself to wake up.

I had the same thing when I was learning to shoot. Haven't had it in a long time now. Occasionally I have similar dreams where I'm using my katana but it's just too heavy and/or my arms are too tired.

Usually my anxiety dreams are about falling though...

If you take some melatonin, a sleeping pill it will more them more vivid and real, and probably worse.

Oh wait...you don't want them to get worse... Oh, well.  My vote is for melatonin!

I have been taking it for a few weeks now and I have really vivid dreams of being repeatedly bitten by water moccasins and one dream of have to shoot some people in the head with a Beretta.  I don't know why but it was important in the dream that it was a Beretta.

Good luck

You are not having nightmares. You are entering another dimension where zombies and vampires live. Usually they cross over in to ours. Sometimes we cross over in to theirs. You are so drained because you really are fighting them. Think about it.
