Yeah I'll wager most of us have seen it.

Yes it is worth watching.

It was a lot better when I was in high school. I'm sure you will enjoy it though.

Yeah,  I'm sure none of us has ever seen that VERY popular and often rerun movie that was released in 1980.

More specifically,  I'm sure none of us has ever seen it more than maybe 200 TIMES.

Arfcommers are much better connected to cool movies than you might think.

There's this one called "Red Dawn" that's supposed to be pretty good, too.  Have you seen it?

I enjoyed it tho I reallt wanted to see some more Jet on Zero action and gratuitous war violence.

I hadn't seen it until recently when I read a thread about it here on ARFCOM.

Fun movie

I have a question though. Wouldn't a modern jet flying past a WWII prop plane simply knock it out of the sky?

One of my favorite scenes was the F14 dogfight with the Japanese Zeros.

There was one from the 80's that i cant remember the name of. all i can remember is that there was a device that could freeze time and at the end of the movie the woman frooze time and was outside and you can see all these missles coming down. anjyone know what that movie was?

Since they were in visual range of the Japanese attack force, they should have unloaded a handful of phoenixes.  That would have gotten somebodys attention!!

Oh, I thought this was another Ted Kennedy thread.   The movie should be worth a look , since it has a good cast, unlike much of what is out today.

HA!  And really confused the shit out of a lot of people.  It probably would have generated urban legends which would still be discussed today...attributing the mysterious attack to E.T.'s or some supernatural phenomenon.

(That is if it really happened and not just a movie, of course. )

You beat me by a few minutes. I have the DVD and watch it sometimes.

I wonder if the movie was filmed with us sinking the Japanese fleet, but deleted from the movie? It would be an interesting ending.

Oh, and the part where they splash the Zeros.

That's one of the best "what if" movies ever.   You really want the movie to continue with the 1980s Carrier Battle Group taking on the Japanese Naval fleet at Pearl Harbor first, and then take out the rest of the Japanese Navy in the weeks to follow.

And imagine being the commander of the battle group and having to explain your presence
not only to the current President,  but to the rest of the US Navy of 1941 that you will
eventually have to work with?

Captain of the Midway:    "Lemme get this straight...you're from FORTY YEARS in the
future??"

It's never-ending fun to think of such a scenario.

I want a remake of that movie, a "good" ending, and two or three sequels to complete it.  All done in the same style of "The Hunt For Red October"...that is...taken seriously.

Hollywood is obviously hard up for ideas, here is a great idea.

"Two trophy class Mitsubishi A6Ms in original condition.  Complete with all markings.  I mean they look brand new sir."

Logan's Run suffered from a common problem:  A futuristic movie filmed in the contemporary style of the day.   And when the style of the day is particularly silly and
lame,  you get mass suckage.

The problem is,  it's difficult NOT to make movies that are connected to the current styles.
Something of the modern culture carries into the movie unless you really work hard to
eliminate it.

The best movies are the ones where you can't tell when they were made by their
visual style.   The Godfather would be a perfect example.

It's easier to make movies set in the past than in the future for that exact reason.

If you KNOW what the visual style should be, rather than try to extrapolate one,
it's just that much easier to do it.   Movies set in the past are a lot easier to make,
from that perspective.
