Let me state right now that killing, maiming, torturing, abandoning, shipping off and so forth of the cat is not an option...

My friend has two cats their roommate is allergic to/hates with a passion.  Me, feeling lonely since living by myself and missing having a cat (my family always had at least one cat in the house while growing up) decided to temporarily adopt the cats.  One of the cats loved me and the other distanced herself from me, so I took them in.

Everything was as expected at first.  The cats acted scared of their new environment at first.  The one that loves me was social and cuddled up next to me while the other hid under my bed for a few hours.  After a few hours the anti social cat ventures out and checks out its new temporary home.  Everything is going okay.  Then the cats owner hops into my shower and the normally friendly cat walks to the bathroom door and starts meowing really annoyingly so I picked her up to comfort her.  She cries louder, I put her down and she slashed my hand up

For the rest of the night the cat hisses at me and tries to attack anytime I get close.  Oddly enough the anti social cat has become accepting of her new place and is becoming friendly.  The cat that used to be nice to me hates me with a passion.  I've known the cat for nearly two years, she always was nice to me, was nice to me after coming to my apartment, but her personality took a complete 180.  WTF?

ignore the cat.  Give it some time and it will come around.  It probley got spooked for some reason or other.

Man I hate cats. That just re-enforces why I have a doberman. Good luck to you.

I just started laughing thinking about that dog turning on you for some reason right after you posted this.

the cat probably got scared of something (as already said).

One of the cats in my house got scared of a black sock on my moms bed (live in parents house FYI, im 21). wouldn't go back in her room for a couple weeks.

Just be patient and ignore it, if it lets you pet it or brush it etc... and it'll come around

+1. And learn to cut their claws, it makes life easier. Don't forget to put out a bunch of scratchable items to see what they like to scratch on (one of which is hopefully more tempting than you furniture!)

Have you ever picked up the cat before?  Cat may not like being picked up, or became scared because it thought that IT might be headed for the shower.

I have one that came to me as a stray.  After 7 years, yes 7, I'm just now able to pick her up, and she'll stay in my arms for a very short time.  But when she's had enough, she lets me know!  Hell, I still get swung at on occasion, but for the most part, she's finally become a very affectionate kitty.

Being in a new place, and being picked up (sudden loss of freedom/escape route), I'd probably take a swing as well.  Just be patient, and be nice.  The cat will come around.

I picked the cat up plenty of times before and shes extremely docile.  She's only shown aggression towards me one time before.

Now shes acting even stranger.  This morning she was fine, I woke up with her sleeping next to me and was very social.  Then her owner went to take a shower before she goes to work and the cat followed her into the bathroom.  When she picked up the cat, it tore through two shirts and cut up her chest

The fucking thing is bi polar or something....

Stop picking the cat up for a while. Cat have to do these things at their own pace. I have two cats and very rarely pick them up (the female will let me, but the male always heads right for the shoulder).
