I've been with Verizon for years after switching to Nextel. The one feature I miss dearly is the Alternate Line service which gave me two lines on one phone to keep business and personal separate.

Is this something Verizon can accomodate? Are the phones even capable of it?

I work closely with VZW as a provider of several of their add-on services.  To my knowledge, phones these days can only accomodate a single MDN (phone number), so a second line wouldn't be supported.  I'd still (gulp) call them and see what they say.

A good number of Verizon phones will support having two different numbers on them (dual NAM), however most people don't realize that both numbers cannot work at the same time; ie if number A is active, then number B's calls will go directly to voicemail, and vice-versa.  Once people understand this the functionality loses a lot of its appeal; we are very rarely asked to set them up that way anymore.

But knowing that, if it would still work for you then all you have to do is find out if your phone will support Dual Nam.

See, thats the thing, just tinkering around, my current LG supports dual nam, and there is even a feature to enable called Auto NAM, would that be one to allow usage of both lines without having to switch?

Not to the best of my knowledge.  Not to say it can't be done, but I've been in this industry for 8 years and have never seen a phone on two NAMs at the same time, even once.

Shit, Verizon can't even forward and old number to a new one, let alone....
