interesting

Chrysler is hoping to jumpstart its faltering sales by guaranteeing customers they won't have to pay more than $2.99 per gallon for most of the gas they use in their new Dodge, Chrysler, or Jeep for the next three years in an innovative new program that starts May 7 and runs through June 2.

There will be lawsuits over this if the market price drops back down significantly below $3.

Interesting program. I can see pessimists jumping on these cards envisioning $5 gas.

Optomists might need another program inducement before they buy a new car.

Honestly, that sounds like a decent promotion.  Chrysler tends to be tilted more toward gas-guzzlers than other manufacturers, so this may be just the program they need to jump start their sales efforts.

Considering how unpredictable the oil market is right now, I wonder how they're accounting for this incentive?  They've got as much of an idea about gasoline prices in 2011 as we do.

I wouldn't buy one of their cars(CARS not trucks). This promo is the only way they can get rid of their cars.

They also have that lifetime warranty.  At least their marketing department is thinking outside the box.

I didn't say that they would have much to stand on, but people will be pissed of they bought a car based on this deal, and gas goes WAY down in price.

There are idiots everywhere, and most of them end up suing someone for something...

Although I had a discussion at length with a veteran salesman at the local Dodge/Jeep dealership about this.

When pressed hard he admitted they had service life limits built in that would basically anull the "lifetime" aspect in many cases. For example, if you spun a crankshaft mainbearing at 100,000 miles, it would not be covered because the expected life of that part would be 75,000 miles with optimal maintenance and use. In that way, it is still a gimmick and really no better than a 7 year/75,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Maybe if your frame cracked in half due to metal fatigue, but I'll wager you will still have to argue like the dickens to get them to replace it 20 or 30 years down the road, and it would be virtually impossible when that vehicle is no longer manufactured and OEM parts no longer stocked. They are not going to give you a new car, and they not going to recreate a 20 year old assembly line to make YOUR part for your old ass car. You can see how a proclaimed lifetime warranty on a car is basically just marketing hype, unless they plan on making the same exact model for 60 years like some latin countries do. We all know that US automakers won't do that. we are lucky if we see the same model for 5-10 years anymore.

Marketing guys, they are always thinking overtime on ways to fool the public into thinking they need something.
It's their job.
