1.  We need to regain control of both houses of Congress.

2.  Most of us despise John McCain's politics and lovefest with liberals & la Raza.

What if we had a movement that encouraged conservatives to

1)  Elect conservatives (or as conservative as we can manage) candidates to the House and Senate to retake the Legislative Branch.

2) Abstain from casting a vote in the presidential race to send a message to those who would sell us out to libs and illegal immigrants.

If we had conservatives in the House & Senate who would play hardball (yeah, I know, wishful thinking) then they could effectively neuter a liberal president.

Downside: A liberal president would be able to nominate liberal activists to the SCOTUS.  Republicans don't have the determination to bork a nomnee like libs do.

As I think about this, if we get conservatives dominating in Congress, they might be able to keep McCain between the lines.  Here in SC many of us are hoping to have Buddy Witherspoon replace Lindsey Grahamnesty.  Witherspoon is a pretty hardcore, uncompromising conservative.

The more I think about it, the more of a mess it becomes.  Thinking about this upcoming election depresses me.  Sometimes I miss Reagan so much I could almost cry.

This won't happen.  Don't get caught up in some fantasy (only to be depressed after the election).  The most we can hope for is to minimize the amount we will lose.

Correction: The GOP doesn't care if they lose 15 more seats in the US House and 5-7 in the US Senate.  (Or else they'd come up with some constructive ideas)

Republicans supporting Ron Paul are already focusing on Congressional, State, and Local races.

Since it appears that RP has no shot at the nomination, the focus has become to try to get as many conservatives into other offices as possible.
Alot of the RP focus has gone off RP specifically, and on to the future movement for conservatives in the future. For this coming election, where possible, and also for 2010 and 2012.

This election is pretty much a debacle. No matter which of the front-runners wins, we lose.

Dude, we tried having a conservative Congress and a liberal president back in 94. Remember what happened?

The Gingrich that stole Christmas? The Republicans wanted to dirty the air and dirty the water? The government shutdown?

The conservative Congress didn't stay conservative.

...not to mention it is FAR too late to talk about running conservative candidates for congressional seats now. Those decisions have already been made and the campaigns are already underway.

I cannot vote for McCain. I won't vote for Hillary or Obama. I have spoken personally to my Senator and told him how frustrated we are not to have a real Republican to vote for. My state overwhelmingly chose Thompson. The Republican leadership at the caucus chose Romney (Wyoming wants a Massachusetts governor? yeah, right).

I have seen the Republican party marginalize itself for years now, trying to "move to the center" to the point where we are running watered-down Democrats.

At this point, I wouldn't mind a Hillary win as much as I would mind a McCain win and a continued slide into a Communist/Socialist dictatorship. Sometimes the only way to change course is for things to get so bad that people wake up and do something about it. Hillary or Obama can do that (make things that bad). McCain will just keep the pot getting warmer and the frog won't jump out.

I hate to say it, but I WANT the Republicans to lose BADLY in November. I want only true conservative Republicans to keep their jobs. Then, MAYBE, the leadership will finally get it and stop running RINOs.

I am thinking long term. All of those saying "keep Hillary out!" are thinking only about this election.

A lot of people seem to think that voting for the canidate you want is "throwing your vote away". I simply disagree. This is the mantality that got us McCain - the Republican leadership thought that they could run a leftist RINO and the conservatives would say "who else would they vote for?"

That's it. Were fed up. We have NO GOOD CHOICES. I won't enjoy Hillary, Obama OR McCain for the next 4/8 years. It simply doesn't matter.

The only way for my vote to count at all is to set up the Republicans to run someone conservative 4/8 years from now.

I was flipping among the news channels last night and someone had a map of the country (Blue coasts, Red interior) and noted the blue states on the map had not gone (R) in the last 4 elections (with the exception of two which had each gone for one of the Bushes). Enough for a (D) win.

My thought was there was going to be a hell of a lot more blue this year than what the map indicated. It's going to be a race between how many people bail on McCain and the usual Demo fratricide between the Obama/Clinton factions. Damn dewey eyed teenagers may be the only ones voting.
