[ARCHIVED THREAD] - September 10, 2001 (Page 1 of 2)

I was just looking at some old pictures and in one photo was a gas station sign from Los Angeles in 1999, regular was $1.15. And that was in LA. In IL, we were paying about a buck. Talked to one of my clients today that bought his house in 1964 and he said gas was about .50 a gallon. When I started driving it was about .90 a gallon in 1989. In 2008, it is $3.75. But nothing is wrong, all who question it are retarded and need an economics class. Has nothing to do with sending our jobs to India and China, has nothing to do with millions of women in the workplace driving cars, has nothing to do with every 16 year old having their own car. Has nothing to do with tens of millions of illegals driving cars in the U.S. Has nothing to do with oil company greed or inflated salaries or the Eco-ninnies. It is simply what the mnarket will bear and anyone who questions it is a un-patriotic treasonist socialist moron that needs economics training. I'm starting to change my thoughts however, demand (in the world I live in, which is EVERYONE I know is driving much less) is going down. Income that is used to buy garbage from China will slow down as a result of an economic slowdown and I am beginning to believe Oil will tumble in the near future. Not saying that it is gospel, just a thought. |
www.randomuseless.info/gasprice/gasprice.html Looks like it was around $1.50/gal about that time. |
I don't know what the gas prices were on that day, but I remember filling up outside of Fort Riley, KS for my drive to Denver (I made about one a month back then). I used to use premium because it was only a few cents more expensive than regular, which was right around $1 a gallon. |
It was $1.00 for a gallon in my town at the time. |
You can tell me whatever you want to that does not make it true... you are wrong no question about it. |

So, I finally got out of Basic at Benning and arrived at Ft Sam Houston in August 2001. I was walking around as a trainee, heading to the PX, and I saw a sign for a AAFES gas station. $0.97/gal. I freaked, it was the cheapest I'd seen in years, and the cheapest I had ever seen it with my driver's license. And I didn't have a car, and was appropriately pissed. It wasn't the norm even in 2001, but I did see it. |
LOL WUT? |
Misery loves company Remember it takes 42 muscles to frown, and only 5 to reach out and punch somebody in the nose |

I bought my first car in Feb 02. It was a 95 Camaro Z28 I Went to to the gas station that night and filled my tank with 93 octane at $1.16 a gallon. Regular was $0.96. It cost me less than $15 bucks to fill my tank. Thank god i dont have that car anymore. I was like to get 15mpg on the highway, and 12mpg city. I also lived in NJ at the time and Jersey gas is always cheaper than everywhere else. |
I'm not sure why this is funny or what your question is. I guess this isn't relevant but this thread isn't going anywhere anyways. Just pointing out that the on Sept 12, 2001 the Russians were showing respect for our loses and felt that both of our countries were engaged in a war with Muslims. Hope that answers your question. |
I think for a few years in the 90s it may have hovered around $1 as well. But 2001? No it was more like $1.50+ |
I don't remember what I was paying for a gallon on 10Sept01, but I know it was cheap enough that wasn't paying attention to it.
Let's see, I remember selling it at the Amoco for 89.9 cents for regular, and that was when I was 16 or 17, so roughly 1996 or '97 it went under a buck here. IIRC, it was 89 for regular, 94 for plus, and 99 for premium. |
