Has anyone ever used this? I was out on national forest land today shooting and got all the way out there to find that I had a flat. I found a can of this in the truck and used it and it helped enough for me to get out and to a gas station to fill up the tire and it held air for the ride home. I seem to remember hearing at one time that it can ruin a tire as far as being able to get it patched. Is this correct, or am I thinking of something else? Thanks

They have to scrap it out inorder to patch and you need to tell the tire guys its in there before the pull the tire off the rim. Its great in a pinch but if you have better options, use those.

The old stuff was propelled by flammable gas, and could be dangerous. The new stuff just makes a bit of a gooey mess, but it has worked for me more than once.

make sure you tell the guys you take the tire to for repair that you used fix a flat.

I got a nail in the tire.  Took it to Wal-Mart.  They said it was too close to sidewall, wouldn't patch it.

Then I took it to Gateway Tires, they patched it.  A few days later, it started to leak.  Then I sprayed fix-a-flat in it.  Good to go since then.

Only use it if other options fail.  Patches are best, most likely permanent.  You can plug it if you like to DIY.

I've had 3 nails in get in tires in the past 3 months.

I always keep a can in the trunk. It can help you out of a jam.
Like posted above, tell them before they start to fix the tire
with a patch. And, the Fix a Flat usually doesnt last permanantly.
So, you may end up with a patch for long term.

How long will the tire slime work for?  I know ideally you don't want to run it for a long time, but how long does it work for before it breaks down?

I've only used it for nefarious purposes-if you fix-a-flat 3 tires and it sits all night, the next day the car rides like a washing machine that's out of balance...

I am soooo lucky to have survived my youth..

It can cause problems.  Only use on a tire that is near the end of its life.  It will attack the valve stem, causing it to eventually leak.

I can only imagine what it does to the butyl liner.

I was told it would balance the tire out as it would go around evenly around the whole tire.

Don't use tire slime in vehicles that are used on highways. It can throw the tires way out of balance.

It will-provided you drive the car immediately after filling it-that way the goop gets distributed. If you don't drive to spread it around, it turns into a goopy mass at the bottom.

So if I put the fix a flat in my tire that has a small nail in it and immediately drive around on it.  How long will it stay balanced, and how long will it last for?

Would it have helped me here?

your probably talking about Slime. that stuff is also sticky. it works to seal a puncture with pressure from inside the tire. if you tire is already flat it probably won't work.

I use the Slime stuff in my tractors and lawn machines. Best thing in the world for grass burrs and stickers. Fix A Flat is your last ditch option in most cases. Most tire shops around here will not touch a tire that has it in it for the reasons stated above. Also in the new cars with the tire inflation sensors in them FAF will ruin the sensors. $$$$$ to fix after you do.

Buy a small air compressor that plugs into the lighter and use that. It may take a while to air up but it will pay for itself in the long run.
