Just got a new kitten. She is too cute and very tiny. She's a calico, here's a pic

Anyway, I hate cat litter. I hate litter boxes. But she will more than likely need one for a while so I after being totally disguted with the chalky litter last week I went and found a huge bag of cedar litter for way cheaper. But what does she do, shit's on the floor near my desk last night. And this morning we had to keep putting her in the box, she finally peed but that was it.

I kow cats can be very fussy when it comes to food, litter, etc. Do any of you have cats who like cedar litter? Everyone I talk to about this says their cats didn't like the cedar and they had to go back to the other kind. I am hoping she will get used to it. Any ideas?

ETA: Her name is Marley

Cats like litter because its natural for them.  They can dig and bury their potty, just like dirt, just like instincts tell them to.

I would suggest a different litter.  Try Fresh Step.  Cheap litter does indeed suck.

I recomend one of these.  Helps with the odor.

Our last cat had litter box problems.  We also tried cedar, but he did not like it either.

We found that this works like a charm, and its sold at PetSmart in both adult and kitten formula.

Make sure to use a scoop and get rid of the waste daily.  Cats can be very picky about their litter boxes.

Good Luck.

A new cat should be locked in the room with the litter box for a day or so.   I presume you've got the litter box in the bathroom.   Put a kitty bed, a water and food dish, etc., on the opposite side of the room.   Then lock her in there while you're at work.  She'll explore her (small) world and figure out where  the waste should go.

Never change over to a different  litter without mixing the two.   This is your problem here.   You should take about a week to adjust the proportions of clay litter and your substitute until she treats the two  as the same.   Start with mostly the old stuff, with just a little of the new stuff.   Eventually you'll have all the old stuff with a couple scoops of the old stuff in there.

I use Feline Pine, and like  it quite a bit.

We do have a litter box with a cover but we first started using a small litter box cause she was so tiny but yesterday we switched to the new one with the cover and the cedar litter and she just wasn't having it. Like I said I did mix some of the old litter in and she did go pee this morning so I guess we'll see when I get home today if she used it again or not. If not I may just try putting more of the old litter in and mixing it like Gonzo said.

[size=3]i think the best litter is this Arm and hammer odour alert.. i got it from petco and its the best. It even changes colour to let you know when it time to change it and its really easy to clean. We keep out kittys litter box next to the toilet with its poop scooper next to it so once a day we just scoop up the stuff and flush it down the toilet, no problems.

with alot of other types of litter you cant flush it, but this one i so fine its like sand.its about $10.99 for a box that should last you almost 3 months.

Litter Maid and Arm & Hammer Supper Scoop (non-clay based) litter.  Perfect for men who hate to clean litter boxes, but don't want to smell like cat piss.
