So I'm on my way home from work yesterday, about to turn the corner near my house, when I have to slow down to avoid a guy getting out of his vehicle at the intersection. Very first thing I notice is that he wasn't pulled to the curb. He was just driving, and came to a stop and put it in park. When he gets out, I see a pistol in a holster, but he isn't in uniform. I go to yellow alert. His vehicle is a late 90's Cougar, with a catholic necklace hanging from the rearview mirror. I check him out closer. I see a badge on his belt, and he has writing above the pocket on his shirt. But I can't make it out. He crosses the street, and heads towards my neighbors house. With his back to me, I see he has handcuffs looped over his belt at the small of his back. I'm still stopped behind his car, watching him intently. I consider myself the head of my one-man neighborhood watch, so it is my duty to stick my nose into other people's business. But since he had a gun, I thought it best to keep my mouth shut. (although I wanted to shoot him the bird for parking in the middle of the street) He knocked on the neighbors door, but nobody answered. I knew someone was home, because their garage door was open, and their "blood vessel" was in the driveway. I parked in front of my house and continued to watch. Someone eventually answered the door. The guy returned to his car and sat there for a few minutes before tearing up the street with his power U-turn, and leaving. I think probation officers can open-carry sidearms, but do they have a badge? Are probation OFFICERS just like police OFFICERS? |
