I was just looking at my BCG and got to thinking, wouldn't the firing pin not ignite the primer if you were holding the barrel at a 90 degree angle to the ground?  The firing pin is free floating, and mine goes fully forward whenever I aim at the ground.

There's not enough force to ignite the primer when the firing pin is just freely traveling in the bolt carrier.

*Hand to forehead*  I guess I didn't make it clear that I meant when the hammer impacts the firing pin.

Isn't the FP stop attained from the rim on the firing pin hitting the carrier, and not by the hammer travel?

Ie, the pin will sit on the primer, and the hammer will still hit it.

Time for an MSPaint diagram, eh?

Wow, I'm a complete idiot.  I didn't think that one entirely through .
