I bought the 987 model 19.2 volt Cordless Hammer Drill today.

It was on sale for $149.99

Came with a Cordless work light as well.

High quality, the vast majority, if not all of their stuff is still made in USA IIRC.

That's a damn good price for the tool. Did it come as a kit with batteries and charger? If so, even better. Brand new or reconditioned?

New with the Charger and 2 batteries.

Porter Cable makes great power tools, I'm still using an 8 1/4" saw and 1/4" drill my Dad bought in 1950.

When Pentair owned Porter-Cable they were pretty damn good

What he said. I have a porter cable circular saw my Dad had for as long as I can remember (I'm 51). It has an all aluminum body. the cord has been replaced about 5 times my Dad was a carpenter and used this saw every work day.

I also hae a porter cable drill with a metal body. Damn near broke my wrist when a bit hung up one time.

Damn good tools.

I have a cordless drill by them that I bought back in 1991 and it still runs like a champ.

Good for the pro grade tools.

Watch out for the 'homeowner' grade stuff though.

Black & Decker purchased them, so the quality will probably decline.

I have a 1950s vintage craftsman 1/2 inch drill.
Solid metal case, good bearings, a real Jacobs chuck.
Not variable speed.

Still going strong.
When boring for running electric wiring it will throw you off the ladder if the 5/8 bit grabs.

Good stuff.

IIRC, they are all made over in Jackson, TN now.

Even their pro-grade tools are on the edge of the suck.  DeWalt at a minimum, Milwaukee or Bosch otherwise...

You are correct. Porter Cable in Jackson makes Dewalt, Black and Decker, and Porter Cable tools in the same plant on the 45 by pass. I live just a few miles from there.

My dad bought a whole shop of Delta and Porter-Cable tools. The cordless drill was the worst I have ever encountered. Crap keyless chuck and the batteries were useless. I believe the drill was Delta.

I have routers that are probably 15-20yrs old and work fine still.  I would trust a Porter Cable router over most any other router for longevity.  Not sure on their other stuff though.  I tell ya this, I would NEVER buy any Hitachi stuff again!  I bought a 3hp Hitachi router cause it was about half the price of the 3hp Porter Cable.  Well it was about 1/16th the quality!  POS I tell ya.  Anyways, Porter Cable is good stuff.

Porter Cable makes good tools.

However, most are made in Mexico instead of Tennessee now.

Pisses me off, but less than it would if they were made in China.

I think the cordless may be Chinese.

Rock solid. Better than DeWalt (my brand), Makita, Rigid and even Milwaukee. I even like some of their power tools more than Bosch. That's saying a lot.

Don't know what they are like now, but we still have and use my grandfathers 1957 8" circular saw.

Bitch weighs something like 40 pounds.  Then it has a steel carrying case to boot.

I have a porter-cable  portable band saw, it has been running strong for years now.

My usual is makita but I would have no problem buying P/C in the future.

I dont know about their cordless stuff.  I have a circular saw  and air nailers made by them and they are great tools.

Good tools, too heavy.

I prefer Milwaukee.

I have a PC Router, Band Saw, pancake compressor and nail guns. They all get major use and always dependable. I had a 18v cordless drill of theirs for about 5 years and when it walked off I replaced it with a Dewalt that has been about half as good as the PC was.

My 12 year old 690 router still runs great, though it doesn't get as much use as it used to. I also have a plate joiner and that thing is the best out of all the rest, except Lamello.

What utterly disgusts me how nearly every common power tool is now made in China, Mexico, Taiwan, or some other non first world country. I recently bought a Makita 18V Li-Ion hammerdrill and impact driver set. Love the tools, but everything but the battery cells are made in fucking China. Paid $338 and it's all Chinese. Get a specialty Makita tool and it will be made in Japan, UK, or a respectable country. My Hitachi router and table saw are made in Malaysia and Taiwan respectively. My DeWalt angle grinder and thickness planer, Mexico and Taiwan. Delta jointer and dust collector, both Taiwan. Makes me sick to think of the money I've spent on this stuff, and where it is made, and will it even fucking last.

Sorry for the hijack!

Good. My high school theater tech/construction class had four 14v cordless drills that were about five years old. They all ran like champs, even after literally hundreds of limp-wristed, "what is a wrench?", "oh! I broke a nail", idots did the most amazingly dumb shit to them.
