[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Continental vs Contiguous States

Ever noticed how many companies advertise such and such shipping to "continental United states" ... only to find out they meant 'contiguous'? Or such and such an airfare price anywhere in the continental US. Then when you explain that Alaska IS part of the 'continental US' they pull the Ohhh thats not what we meant BS.
Im sure this only happens to me as I live in Alaska but it just pisses me off that companies are so ignorant. This usually means I wont do business with them!

Yes, they are pretty stupid. Many folks don't know what the word "contiguous" means. They should say something like, except AK and HI.

Once a company actually thought they were shipping to Arkansas and let it slide!! But being the kinda guy I am I had to give them a f'in geography lesson!!

Well I'd use the term CONUS as used by the Feds and military which is the lower 48.
