I'm talking about all those police associations type stickers on your back window of your vehicle, do they help out on traffic stops ? I see them all the time here in Houston, the 100 Club one's (The 100 Club donates to a fallen officer's family)
|
No more than my "combat action" sticker does... Nobody gives a shit about that stuff... CPO SWCC US Navy (Retired) |
| There is only one kind of sticker/decal that MIGHT help. Most SO/PD have small star/shield decals they provide only to employees. They look just like the fullsize ones on marked cars only they're about 2"-4" in size. They're usually locked away and you can only get one if you're an employee so you know every Joe Q. Public won't have one. Those might help, maybe.....possibly. |
Kinda like the 'bangers around here getting the "Prevent Violence" donation plates...
Just like the FOP/PBA stickers... they work until the officer who pulled you over asks you "where do you work" or "Where'd you get the sticker?" Answer with anything other than a department name (and have credentials to back it up) and it'll come across like "Oh, my brother's neighbor's sister's cousin's friend gave it to me". Press hard - four copies. |
Yea they will help...they will help you get your windows knocked out while parked out in public. |
They're also great for attracting keys and spit. |
|
The police now use the: THIN BLUE LINE sticker as a "get out of ticket / we are above the law" identifier. check out www.thinblueline.com If you want to put these stickers on your car, just buy some off Ebay and say goodbye to ever getting another speeding or parking ticket. |
100% true. Also, if you ask a cop if they be 5-0 they gots to tell ya. Gots to! |
I have all kinds of stuff from LE relatives and friends. None of it is in or on my car. Wouldn't work, as the one question you will get asked queers the deal, i.e., "Who you with"? Anything other than "XXX PD" will probably get you a fail on the no-paper/paper test.![]() ![]() If you have a real badge and can back it up, you might get a pass, if someone from your jurisdiction has not screwed with someone from the jurisdiction in question, or the guy who stopped you got laid last night/before his/her shift. Maybe. If you don't act like the guy owes you a favor, and if you haven't done something incredibly stupid, are DUI, T/A'd, etc. Lots of cops think cops should know better, too. 'Get out of jail free' cards aren't as common as non-cops think. |
Already as worthless as slang listed in a written dictionary. |
I was not asking about myself getting stopped, I see almost every othervehicle in Houston with those types of stickers. |
|
MAYBE?!? You better not even THINK about writing me up son! If I sense for ONE SECOND that you have disrespected or insulted me by not giving me some sort of professional courtesy, I will have your name and badge number all over the following website so fast it will make your head spin! http://www.copswritingcops.com We'll just SEE what happens THEN. |
So you are saying just because you're a LEO that you shouldn't get a ticket for breaking the law ? ![]() I'm sorry, with an attitude like that, no wonder why people hate cops. Just because you're a cop, you are not above the law. As soon as you realize this, you'll become a better person, by being a "Professional" you should hold yourself to a higher standard than what the public is judged by. The first and foremost job of a true professional LEO is to "Help another person when in need" And before you try to label me as a "Cop Basher" guess what, this is coming from a former LEO of 14 years that was smart enough to get out of it for less stress on me, my family, my marriage and triple the salary a month. |
|
Who you are is a lot more important than the sticker on your back window. If you're an LEO-resenting, trash-talking scofflaw, you're going to get written up much more quickly than if you're a regular working Joe just trying to get home from work. As for professional courtesy, I only had my badge/ID save me from a ticket one time. I was 77 in a 55 zone... and I even told the highway patrolman that he had me dead-to-rights, and that I would absolutely understand if he ticketed me. He simply handed me back my cred folder and said "see ya... have a nice night!" I replied "you didn't have to do that." He smiled and said "see you later!" as he walked back to his cruiser. That's the only time... and that was almost ten years ago. Stickers by themselves mean nothing. |

as an EMT i find that most cops won't write me for speeding, which i admit i do from time to time. i did get wrote once, the guy asked me about the star of life in my window, told him i was a medic, he asked what company, i told him, asked me what area, i told him, all the while he was scribbling away, he handed me the ticket and told me to have a nice day. i don't expect to be treated any differently, but sometimes it's nice to get a break. can't get one all the time. i paid the ticket, and they kept it off my record
|
Must be another mall ninja bastard with a gumball machine badge. Professional courtesy doesn't have a GD thing to do with folks who think they're above the law. The law doesn't exclude anyone based on color, creed, race, religion, or career. So go ahead and post my name anywhere on the net you want, as long as you post yours at the bottom of this ticket. |
|
I would think that a guy that buys a sticker that says I'm stupid enough to pay for this and stupid enough to think a cop can be bought off with it would also be guaranteed to be surprised to get a ticket from a Cop who doesn't like to be told he's dishonest when approaching the car. Just my take. |
So you're a bad cop who expects to break the law and get away with it? Around here that attitude will get you a ticket faster than anything. Bad cops are bad cops. |
Most cops (FF's, EMT's) will respond with the correct answer when asked "Do you know why I stopped you?". If you say "Gee, I dunno, ossifer..." (like lots of folks who don't want to "admit" anything) and then expect a pass, you're treating the on duty coppper like a , and you deserve a ticket. If the on duty officer has to write you, he has to write you. Nature of the beast. The only way I could see having an attitude like CBR's would be if you were stopped by your own department... but that said, why are you flagrantly violating the laws in the district you serve and protect, and forcing the guys you work with to deal with you in a business like manner?? Even when I got my last citation from my own PD, I got an apology from the issuing officer. Told him he was doing his job. I was slack on my awareness and reponsibility - I got nailed. It's called professional courtesy because it's given freely and without expectation - otherwise it would be called professional expectation. |

I have an SO star on the back window of my wifes XJ. It did get her out of a ticket once. She had a headlight go out and the local PD pulled her over, when asked about the decal she told them her husband was a Deputy Sheriff, after he asked who I was he told her to be safe and then added and tell your husband to fix this headlight. I have been let off with a "you know better" by a friend who works for the local PD. Every time he sees me now he chuckles. I did a slow roll through at a stop sign. I tease him by saying I knew you were there I was making sure you were awake. |
What! That be havin me laffin my mufuggin ass off yo!
|
|
LOL. You didn't read what I posted, did you? And if someone copped an attitude with me on the street, badge or not, they got a free ticket to see the man. I always felt that we owed a brother some consideration. If the circumstances allowed it. Sometimes, they don't. |
Not here. In fact any such sticker or insignia would be a violation of policy likely resulting in termination of the employee who produced it, sold it, gave it away or displayed it. 146d. Every person who sells or gives to another a membership card, badge, or other device, where it can be reasonably inferred by the recipient that display of the device will have the result that the law will be enforced less rigorously as to such person than would otherwise be the case is guilty of a misdemeanor. |

Haven't read all the replies but I know for a fact that a conceal carry permit helps. It helps the arresting officer know that you are responseable, and can pay what ever fine the duche throws at you. (aka: 6 inch wheelie equals $180, 6 points on license and a date with a judge) ![]()
|
![]() You snagged a few with this one..... |
What state has THAT silly law, and how often does it get enforced? |
A Deputy Chief of the local PD was stopped by one of our troopers at 30+ mph over. He ranted and raved about professional courtesy until the trooper let him go...and then called the Chief and let him know how his second in command was acting. The matter was resolved very quickly. |

, and you deserve a ticket.
