I have seen this done before in bigger shops, but never really wanted to spend the money or the time to do it myself.  I thought the tiles were really expensive and hard to install....but I was WAY wrong.

I bought two boxes of these self-adhesive tiles.....for $15 a box!  That's enough to do 90 sq/ft.  I decided to do a 7'x12' area.  That would give me a few extras left over in case I screwed any up while installing them.

In order to prep the floor...I just vacuumed it off, and cleaned it with some pine sol and a mop....and let it dry.

Installing the tiles was a piece of cake. Just peel the backing off, line them up, and stick them down.  It took me right at one hour to do this 7'x12' area. I think it turned out great...I might even buy another box and make it a little bigger.

This 7'x12' spot is just about the perfect size to part my toys on..  I don't know how oil/fuel resistant they are....so I'm probably not going to be doing any oil changed over the tiles....I'll have to role the bikes out onto the concrete.  It's more just to add a little "bling" to the garage.  Now I just need to do something to the walls!  Got any ideas?

For $30......I think it was money well spent.  :D

That looks great!  It really makes a big difference.  If those tiles are oil/gas resistant, you definitely done good!

looks cool, though I'm not sure white will looks so great as a floor surface to be driven over all the time.

they also sell a garage floor kit with the resin paint and color flake stuff too.  havn't used it myself, but it looks pretty cool IMO

Cool dude !

Myself I did the rust oleum garage epoxy paint for $50.  Big Difference and it cleans up like a snap.

Had it for about 4 yrs and there is only one place that has peeled up and its only about a square inch

myself, once I get to a clear floor in my garage, it's getting the sealant and paint job (checm resistant).

If they are the vinyl peel-n-place that you use as a cheaper alternative to installing the stuff on the big rolls, you'll be very sorry. But if they are made for the garage, you probably done good.

It looks cool.

Be even cooler if it was textured to prevent slippage.

Yeah , I am going to coat my garage floor with that Behr coating.

The only problem that I can see is over time with the tiles layed over the Expansion Joints in the Concrete the tiles might pull apart or come up when the concrete expands and contracts. Especially during really cold or hot times of the year.

Word to the wise regarding epoxy coated garage floors.

Clean up antifreeze immediately, or you will slip on it and kiss your pretty floor

We used those in our laundry room and plan on doing them in the garage.  Very nice results and really cheap.  Like .15 cents per sqft.

Should I take a razor and make a small cut down the expansion joint...just to allow a little movement in the concrete without the tiles pulling apart?

Anyone know where I can get some edging to put around the tiles to keep them from peeling up in the corners or on the edges?

Thanks

maybe some sort of clear lacquer to paint over them with?

Keep in mind....all I'm using this for is to roll the bikes onto. I'm not going to be doing any wrenching on that spot.

I'll just wheel the bikes out into the middle of the garage if I want to do some work on them.  I'm not planning on getting any oil or fuel on them....maybe just some dirt from the tires ,and that's it.

I have used the resin w/o the flakes and my boss has done it with the flakes.  The flakes look great.  Holds up well as long as the floor concrete hasn't gotten porous.  If you roll over it with hard plastic wheels from an office chair it will bubble up as the concrete disintegrates.

I though about doing the entire garage....but I don't know if the tiles are oil/fuel resistant.  I  wanted to leave enough room where I could have room to work on my truck....and not have to worry about getting oil, grease, fuel....all over the tiles.

+1!!!!!

Same thing happened to me about 8 years ago.

Came straight down on my right knee.

Still hurts every damn day

Looking at surgery to fix it but can't afford the time off.

Anyone give advice on the resin sealants. I've heard that the store brands (home depot, etc...) don't hold up well and will peel with hot tires and such. Any experience??

What does it look like after you drag a 14 bolt axle and weld suspension brackets onto said axle?

Looks good.  I wish I had done the tiles instead of the garage floor paint.  There seems to be something made into motorcycle tires that make them sticky when wet, and the paint stuck to them.

Like I said before....it's just an area to keep my bikes...not to do work on.   I'm not going to spill, drip, or drag anything across it.

Not a bad idea. Use a straight edge and you should be able to do it without making it too noticeable.
