OK, I'm Old School and still have a problem when using a AimPoint or Eotech of keeping both eyes open. Was not taught that way by my Father, or the Army.

So I was wondering how many of you keep both eyes open, and how many STILL shoot with one I closed when using a Red Dot or Holographic sight.

Also opinion as to how large a difference it really makes.

I understand the reasons for keeping both open, still a problem for me.

How about you?

In before the poll!

Both eyes open when using my EoTech. I was taught to shoot with one eye closed, so I had to retrain myself. Just takes practice.

Biggest issue with this is probably knowing your dominant eye.  If you aim with your dominant eye, keeping both open is almost always a non-issue (scope, blade sights, aperture...).  If you try to sight with your week eye, you will need to close your dominant.

101 ways to determine your strong eye.  Here is an easy one.  Hold your arms out, hands facing up (palms facing away from you), cross your hands (fingers over fingers, thumb over thumb, palms to the outside) such that there is about a 1" hole formed with the web of your 2 thumbs.  Casually look at something across the room (or distance through the hole).  Don't worry about the hole, this is kind of like pointing at something without aiming.  Now figure out which eye you were using (hint, if the thing across the room is a friends head, they  can tell you).  Generally the easiest way it to close one eye, then the other to see which keeps the object there, and which one has you looking somewhere else.

1/7 or so people are left handed, 1/2 are left eyed.  You might be one of the lucky ones that is right handed and needs to shoot left handed.  It takes a bit of effort to change, but it worth it.

Depends.

If I'm trying to really zero in on some small plinkable thing, I go ahead and close one eye.  Otherwise, from a "tactical room clearing perspective" both eyes open.  You know, shooting glow sticks in a river.

I shoot both eyes open for everything from handguns with irons to 10X scopes @400 yards.

I never knew any other way to do it.

I also have never known anyone else o shoot BEO with high magnification optics like I do.

It feels wierd to shoot with both eyes open but I do it to increase my perifial vision.

Where is the "Both eyes closed and hope for the best" option?

I don't use a red dot or holo sight on anything so I really don't know.  When I use a telescopic scope I still close 1 eye.

One eye open. It's hard to overcome the habbit.

Both eyes open.

Both open in most cases.
Sometimes if I'm going for accuracy, I'll revert back to 1 open.
More habit than anything.

Both eyes. You can still scan while aiming and holding to fire.
