Of those who have studied for and taken the patent bar, what do you recommend for prep? How hard was it compared to your state bar (I guess that depends on the state)? How long did you prepare for it? What is the overall pass rate? Are you glad you took it? Thanks for any experiences you have. |

When my son took it a couple of years ago, the passing rate was 35%. Fortunately, he was in the 35%. He had a box full of materials that he had purchased ($1,000 if I remember correctly) that were prep materials for the patent bar. He spent the entire summer studying the materials before he took the exam. He has taken and passed the NC bar, the Viginia bar and the patent bar and in his opinion, the patent bar was by far the most difficult. Once you pass the patent bar, if you don't have your JD (law degree) then you are a licensed patent agent. Once you have your JD and have passed your state bar, then you can apply to be labeled a patent attorney...at least that is how I remember it. |
