| Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an ATV of any kind that is street legal? I'd love to have one just to ride around the little country community I live in, but if I can't take it out on the road it doesn;t help me a lot. I'm not particular...4 wheeler, 3 wheeler...whatever. |
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Dunno about your state's regs, but people ride them everywhere around here. I have seen them on the main street of Quartzsite and running up and down the highway around where I live. I have never seen one on HWY 10, 75mph. My Polaris has a brake light, although not licensed for the road. Check with your local dealer. |

When i went to Sturgis, all of the locals had tags on their 4 wheelers and could ride on the road. in Ok in the panhandle close to the Cimmaron River they are allowed in town there. I went hunt by the dunes there and there were signs saying no 4 wheelers past this point in town. |
Sorry .. they won't approve an ATV in Texas. They drive them all over the place in Arizona. tlo2.tlc.state.tx.us/statutes/tn.toc.htm Chapter 502 section 006 § 502.006. ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLES. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a person may not register an all-terrain vehicle, with or without design alterations, for operation on a public highway. (b) The state, a county, or a municipality may register an all-terrain vehicle for operation on a public beach or highway to maintain public safety and welfare. Here in Utah there is a town on the Paiute Trail, one of the largest ATV trails in the US, that you can legally ride ATVs in town at any time. I think you can do it in most places as long as you have a rear view mirror, turn signals, break lights, and street tires. |

They just passed a law here in AZ making it against the law to drive on any state maintained roads (This includes all the tiny dirt fire roads that ATV's use a lot) without tags and insurance. In order to get that the vehicle has to be street legal, needing mirrors, horn, blinkers and lights. If I have to pay for yearly tags, insurance, and the accessories to make it street legal, I may as well use it on the street. |
A Banshee would make a helluva sweet street quad! |

How about an old jeep? If you had power steering and an automatic transmission it would be like a big ATV. Maybe on of the first Suzuki Samurai without a top? Could you use it as a farm vehicle and put a Slow Moving Vehicle sign on it? The triangular orange with red border one. I think it is for 15mph or less. One thing about true quads on the street is people tend to not see you and run over you. |
