Who the hell thought it was a good idea to start the tradition of having your entire extended family over on holidays? Why can't we just sit around and enjoy a nice quiet evening and dinner... There are too many children here and not enough discipline. I would actually rant about this but I am too tired from staying up till 4am watching F1 and getting up at 6am for church.

The I hate kids to begin with. Kids that misbehave I can't stand. When I try and keep them in order I get reprimanded when it is my room they are tearing up. When I try and keep them out of my room I get reprimanded because if they can't play in my room they will start to misbehave..

We dont really do Easter.....but I dont really have an extended family either.... There is no escaping Christmas presents...

I went to two church services this morning despite being up till 4am. Why, exactly, is Jesus' resurrection a reason to invite everyone to your house, eat way too much and drink just enough to be obnoxious but not enough to get partied out and shut the hell up? |
It's about being together... despite the uncomfortable circumstances... just doing it a few days out of the year makes you closer... It should be done more often.

I understand that but it is very hard to enjoy my family when half of them end up drinking too much and then proceed to try and give me some life changing advice about girls, school ect. and the kids have free reign to do whatever they please...as long as it is in my room. "Why can't he just play with your guitar if you are with him...don't be so uptight?" Uptight? It's a 900 dollar guitar, he's 6, why the hell does he need to play it? Sure, not a huge issue to deal with that situation but it is that over and over again from the time they come till the time they leave. This year I just said fuckit, took all the valuable shit out of my room and let them have at it.... Supposedly my crackhead cousin told my uncle she was coming even though she isn't welcomed in our house. I almost hope she does, that'd at least be interesting. |
Sounds like the drinking is the problem, not the family. ETA: I drink like a fish, but can control my self, I'm a giddy drunk.

Some of them have drinking problems(THEY have the problems. Drinking isn't the problem. I know tons of people that drink without issue). That and the kids. We have 6 of the little shits running around right now. Whenever someone tries to discipline them when they get into stuff they shouldn't get into or don't listen when they are given an order someone else feels the need to butt in and tell the other person how they need to just let kids be kids ect.  I. can't. stand. kids when they don't listen to authority. They will sit their and mock my cousins/uncles/aunts, run off and no one does anything. Absolutely can't stand that. |
I understand, the only discipline my nephew gets is from me, His mom now uses me to enforce the rules, "don't make me call your uncle!" Sounds like your family needs you, Step up to the plate. |
The F1 was worth it  And I don't have to deal with it , because the only family to pester me is on the other side of the world , or a couple of folks in Boston  Inlaw free  Edit: You are lucky you don't have drunkard Norwegians as family , last time we had a get together the police showed up , my uncle got deported and it took a week to clean up the place.

We skipped it this year... ()I was in a bad car accident week before last and I'm still moving kind of slow. My son has had an allergy attack all week long, and the wifey is just pllain sick of having to take care of both me and my son. (Hekk, if I'd known that a car wreck would get me out of the 200 mile schlep to the in-laws' , I'd have wrecked a car before Christmas too.

Yep... none of my family [different state]...or my extended family showed up nor where they invited.   ...............Christmas and Thanksgiving weren't that long ago and I am still in recovery from that  |

You could always sling up the AR and open carry a pistol to the next get together. It might be you're ticket to never getting invited again. But be careful, you might be the first one they call when SHTF.
