Better to have a little plan of action rather than no plan.
However, those tricks take some practice... I wouldn't try much funny business without having some degree of confidence in my ability to pull it off.

They taught us some basic stuff like that in recruit school. Not something I ever want to try, but if you're in that position it's better than just standing there and begging the crazy fuck not to kill you.
I'd at least rather go out trying to fight.

Learned similar techniques while in the academy. I try to practice at least once/week for 5-10 minutes. Have been slacking lately. Will have to try those new moves out on the wife.

I think Jackie Chan and Jet Li should stick to making chop chop movies.
But seriously, I don't think I've ever heard of anyone using these techniques in real life in the US or Asia. But extra tools in the toolbox can't hurt.
