Eugene Stoner is the man credited with designing the AR15, which was eventually adopted as the M16.

This was around 1959.

Now, almost 50 years later, we still use the M16A3, M16A4, and M4 variants.

So, Eugene Stoner created  the M16 platform, which has since evolved over the last half century.

Wrong. A Glock kaboomed (the big bang) and the AR-10 was created. It evolved from there.
