I just sold an AK drug mag to a dude on another website. I requested discreet paypal for payment. Unfortunately he did not understand this notion. I just got an e-mail from paypal saying I had recieved a payment for "ak drum mag". Am I going to get banned??? Edited for missing words. :p |
|
Here is the problem as I see it. If the guy lies on the payment and you screw him over by not sending the item or it's not as advertised, what recourse does the buyer have if he puts down that it was for a toilet paper hanger? Even if he just put down "mag" on it, you could send him a $8.00 promag and what could he do? Catch 22 as a buyer and if you're a seller you have to understand it. |
| I once had my paypal account locked. I sold something on gunbroker and the guy put gunbroker auction # xxxx somewhere. I got an email telling me to remove the violating items from my website (I can't cause I don't own gunbroker) so I sent them a link to my website which has nothing on it but a flashing gif. They unlocked it after that. |
| If you are really worried about it, since it takes a couple of days to do a cash withdrawal from a paypal account, sell yourself or your wife or a friend something using another paypal account (that doesn't take credit cards, so no fees) and pay direct from your account. Then immediately withdraw the funds. |
Because "laws", "rules" and "justice" are not the same thing and they seldom coincide. He's helping America by participating in commerce and furthering the propagation of gun ownership. Good for him for doing such and being creative at using a service that would normally exclude him. Joguwa86, I applaud you for your actions and hope everything works out okay. If they call you on it, email them that photoshopped picture of drummers in Alaska and lie your ass off. Using the tools you're given and manipulating them for your benefit IS good business sense. |
Very funny! |
You want to start the collection to build the guy a Hero Rifle? |
|
Why I dont use PP anymore... Went to pay a person for something I bought off here. I was going through the send payment process and didnt realize it automatically set itself to withdraw from an old and closed account of mine that I hadnt deleted off there. Whenever I had withdrawn money it always had the good account listed so I didnt bother to check. My mistake but a mistake none-the-less. Now I cannot send money at all. Can recieve but fuck em. After all the money they have made off my transactions they dont seem to care about losing anything. Guess they make enough. Now I rely on USPS money orders... |
+1 DO IT ASAP! People need to start using gearpay as it is set up like paypal and is pro-gun. If not then USPS MO FTW! |
|
Fuck paypal...I had my account "hacked" twice now due to their "superior" security procedures....straight $2k right out of my bank account... Yeah, apparently bad idea to have it linked to a Paypal account, but they sold their business on being secure and failed. Fuck them. If you're an e-retailer and can't take anything but paypal, you probably arent worth doing business with anyway. It's a huge PITA recovering your funds...twice. Without Paypals (super uber duber secure 1337's) help. |
A bit late for this. Your account is gone. You may as well count your losses. You'll also need a new bank account to open another or they'll catch you again. Same with the name. |
Once they lock your account they can't keep your money forever can they? |
I used to run the criminal investigations for PayPal and started their anti fraud program in 2000. You'd be locked already if they were going to lock you. I am not going to detail the process but you'd be done already. Here is the deal as I have explained before but it doesn't seem to sink in. none of us were or are anti gun. The big CC companies put restrictions on PayPal for various reasons. Chiefly because we were eating up their business in the early days and they like the rules to suit them. For every firearm transaction PP is caught doing they face 10s of thousands of dollars in fines from the CC big wigs. So if they get locked it is because your sneaking around screwed them. I know every one thinks PP is anti gun. They aren't I certainly wasn't and in a 100 or so meetings at a high level of this conversation not once was an anti gun motive mentioned. Nothing personal just business. PayPal is a really stupid way to pay for firearms. Live with it. Hell I tried to give you guys a 2nd amendment company that accepted payments for firearms and fought the CC companies and had stacks of research that gave me the ability to tell them to pound salt. No one used it, folks would IM me and say I want to use BidPay but PayPal is easier. Then they'd get locked... Not so easy then. Anyhow we shut the doors to BidPay which was as good or better than PayPal in many ways except volume. Hell we even protected you against ANY loss due to stolen credit cards. If you were one of our merchants the ONLY way you got screwed is if you sent a broken piece of shit product OR didn't send it at all. Nope folks would rather sneak around on PayPal and worry about getting locked. Question if they can lose 25K + in fines per transaction would you take gun payments? Do you blame them if they lock you when you break their rules? |

The good news is I was just hired to develop the fraud program for the company that will make PayPal look like a minor player. Maybe folks here will support that company. If I can convince them it is worth the effort to fight the CC bigguns. ETA: Sorry for being so snippy but man I worked REALLY hard to develop a viable company that first and foremost protected its customers and secondly I busted my ass not only convincing the company that I could beat CC companies and we could provide 2A payments that did everything especially for FFLs. We had just spent an ass load of money developing a program for FFLs that would streamline a lot of stuff for them as far as book keeping goes. We were working on a major thing with the big gun auction sites and even some smaller ones, we built a system where FFLs or FTF sellers at gunshows could bring a laptop hook up to the internet and use us to take payments and get full on invoicing etc. I begged folks here to support a safe 2A company that employed the safest payment option period. We made PP look like security and risk amateurs. I tried and we lost so when I hear about people making a risky move with PP is pisses me off. Again my apologies... |
If it doens't cost any more than paypal and they will take firearms related transactions, I'm in |
We had to shut down 2 weeks before Xmas. And for ArfCom members we were much cheaper than PP and those that did use us got personal account reps for free that monitored their accounts and actually reached out to the merchant before anything bad happened. For ARFCOM fees we beat PayPal's unadvertised fees for 100K GMV sellers. Plus personal merchant assistants. And my email address and God help the rep that didn't give 110% to ARFCOMMERs. |

I'd reject the payment and resend him an invoice for "CNC parts" or "Black Widgets". Paypal does not have the authority to assume you are sending something illegal - so they cannot freeze you unless you blatently state in the invoice its for a firearm related product. I've done this for years with no problems whatsoever. As for accounts getting frozen, I am sure that it happens, but I don't keep funds in my PP account. I use it for transfers only. Seems to work well this way. If Paypal does lock your account, they will not keep your funds forever. You will end up getting a check for the balance remaining in your account. Just don't keep a balance in there. I always immediately transfer any money I am sent to another account. Everytime I use Paypal for firearms stuff, I feel like I am kinda sticking it to the man. |
PayPal has never been hacked. There are only two ways someone can get in to your account. You give them the password (or they have a trojan on your PC which is still your fault) or it was so easy it was brute forced. Of course no one ever admits they give out their PW. The 3rd remote option is we used to have to shit down accounts with some small time ISPs because the eastern europeans owned their mail servers. That happened less than 5 times in my almost 7 yrs. A lot of folks use the same password on all of their online accounts. So often they fall for a spoof site for something else and the dirtbags will plug in your email and PW to PP without even knowing you have an account but they try it and area successful. We had 1 power seller on eBay gave out his PW 3 times. Always denied it but we had ways of monitoring accounts and could tell. No PayPal didn't get hacked we used to have a couple 3 letter agencies kissing our asses to figure out how we did stuff. Wait until you see the new company I am working with. You'll be using your cellphone to safely pay anyone you want whenever you want. You'll have a Mastercard that you can load up wherever you are and be protected. Having trouble getting funds to the kids in school? No worries. Wife needs emergency cash on a biz trip? Seconds away... We are going to change the face of money movement, we will make your lives much better, we will jealously protect every penny of yours. Because your money is very important to me and the team. We will put horrendous people away for long times and like I said more importantly we will protect your money like it is ours. Because if you use us we owe you that protection. My team will understand that nothing is more important than your money and if they fail to get that they will be seeking employment elsewhere. Sorry if this all sounds pompous but it is so good to be employed again, working in emerging technology and protecting the money of hard working people. Some folks get their kicks sailing or racing cars. I get a kick out of denying fraudsters. |
Thats great violate the rules of a company that had those rules forced on them by someone else. Yea!!! let's intentionally screw a company!!! Jesus people do some jackass stuff. When they shut you down and create a hassle for you please don't complain... |
I felt like I just watched a commercial. Good for you though man, if it's everything you're saying it is, I'll be the first to sign up. |
I had an account locked once. A seller screwed me over, I disputed it with paypal and they laughed at me. I then called my bank. I got my money back but PayPal put me in negative balance and then closed my account. They even sent me to collections. I told the collections company to go to hell. Never heard from them since. ![]() |

I hate people like that. I sold a crappy TAPCO AK stock that I got duped into buying. I told him in the thread to be discrete with the payment as PayPal is very anti-gun. I guess his definition of the word discrete is "overtly obvious", as his put AK-47 Folding Stock in the payment. I was thinking, "Are you retarded?" ![]() My account was frozen, but luckily for me I only had his payment + a few dollars in it. Dumbass didn't get his stock though

I won't buy any item that requires a USPS money order; I'm NOT going to drive across town & stand in line for 1/2 hour to get a stupid money order. I'll send a check, paypal, or another online pay. Hell even a cashiers check is easier to get than a MO from the USPS; I absolutly hate the post office |
Then take your lumps and don't bitch to us about it. It is a cost of doing business and only a matter of time until PP screwed you. |
|
No offense to the OP , but this is what you get for using an anti-gun service to sell gun related stuff. There are other ways to do business...I really suggest looking into them. Sorry that is causes you an inconvenience, but sometimes you need to take a position. I stopped using PP a long time ago...Im done with them forever. Same with Ebay. |
"Indie" third party payment systems are bad ideas bears. |
Why would the purchase of an Alaskan Drum Magazine get you banned? Does PayPal have something against Inuit musicians? |
I guess folks don't understand even after multiple posts here explaining that PP is not anti gun they are forced by the CC companies Visa and MC to not take firearms related payments. There is a significant difference between anti gun and business decision based on being forced to make that decision. Ultimately I no longer work for them and work for a competitor now but it kinda bugs me that folks still pass this bum scoop. One last time not one of us that started the company was anti gun, not one of us in any meeting EVER said fuck the 2A lets piss off a whole segment of revenue. Never happened never will. But the internet myth is strong with this one. |
Can't take Credit cards? I buy all my firearms online with MC and Visa. Ammo too. |

Very funny!
