I would post this in the CA forum, but I'm leaving in about 20 minutes so I wanted quick answers.

I always feel insecure while transporting several legal, registered firearms. Simply because I'd imagine police would respond negatively if they ever popped open my trunk and found an assortment of handguns and long guns.

Question: Is it best to bring the firearm registration with the firearms, when carrying several firearms?

How would a LEO respond upon finding a trunk full of firearms?

I'm just tired of feeling nervous while transporting several firearms, so I want to make sure I'm doing everything perfectly.

They are all stored in the trunk which is considered a locked box, unloaded, and ammo in a separate box.

Uh, you do realize that the police can't just pop open your boot? Just refuse to consent to searches.

What registration?

What's he doing snooping around in your trunk?

I don't get it....

I dont know about the legalities, but I always have some targets and earmuffs laying out in plain sight.

It helps with the "sporting purposes" story

Wow.

I never give a thought to packing up my guns to head to the range.

Do you have 'registration papers' for all of your guns?  FOPA anyone?

I of course would refuse to do searches. But here in CA, all they need is one of their dogs to wag their tale in awkward way and that gives them probable cause.

This is mostly out of sheer curiosity. I would give a LEO prior to them opening up my truck for no damn reason.

Wrap them inside of quilts blankets cases whatever you have on hand and stack light duffel bags loosely stuffed with light weight clothes and fill it to the brim.  No cop is going to take the time to go through all those heavy looking bags.

This is for a much, much longer drive, but still within CA.

The only time I ever think about this is when driving 2-5 hours to the mountains.

Also, keep in mind things in Kalifornia are very different than elsewhere.

3 or 4 long guns of assorted variety and several hundred rounds of ammo plus the hand guns and I don't even feel out of the ordinary ....

I wouldn't be too worried since they are locked up, unloaded and separated.  Like others said don't consent to search.

DO NOT CONSENT TO A SEARCH UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
