I'm a novice when it comes to the AR-10. Is this a good rifle. I have seen one at a gun shop for $1100. I'm thinking about getting it. I need some pros & cons, thanks.

The rifle is only as "good" as the shooter is competent.

Whether it is "good" depends on which model you're getting and what you want to use it for. The stainless barrel models and the T's are very accurate, but finicky about certain ammo, most notably the cheaper surplus. The chrome barrel guns are still accurate, though a bit less than the stainless, but are also much less picky about ammo. I have a chrome barrel flattop carbine and so far I love it. OTOH, I USED to have a stainless barrel carbine and it jammed up every time I used surplus ammo.

Selling conversion mag kits or converted mags is like film in the camera for Eagle Arms/Armalite.

I just ordered a field replacement kit from armalite, on sale for 35.00.

Is there any way to modify FAL mags to work in the AR-10? I shot a friends AR-10 carbine & The gun is great, But the mags are "Way too Expensive".

You need AR10 followers and armalite will not sell them, so you a stuck with ordering them from them. Yea it sucks, but if you don't your M1A followers will hold the bolt open, and when you remove the mag the bolt will close. You can find all the info at armalites site. Hope this helps

flatapple The way I see it: Pro, .308, same operation as the AR15 Con, expensive mags I haven't experienced any ammo relared problem's, i only feed mine Black Hills and Hirty surplus. raf I did alot of reading on the magazine issue. I bought a AR10A4 carbine with a stainless barrel. Green Furniture of course [:D] The way I understand it is, when the M-14 magazine is modified for the AR10, it still must be able to be used in the M-14! If a high-cap is modified to work in a different firearm and cannot be used in the original firearm, you have in effect created a new high-cap magazine and we know that is a no-no [:(!] BTW This is the reason the FAL mag can not be used. Armalite had a way to the FAL mag to work in the AR10. The BATF told Armalite NO, since once modified the mag could no longer work in the FAL (I have FAL mags and no FAL [soapbox]) When I first purchased my AR10, I got several of the magazine kits (mag body, follower) the locking lug was completely missing, the magzine could still be used in the M-14, but would have to be held in place (by hand/tape/superglue [>:/]) The Latest mag's I've gotten are Armalite modified, these have about half of the locking lug left on the mag body, so it will lock into place. Hope this helped

Had a couple "minor" bugs with the ar10....but after that great...the ar15 was so accurate..it sold me on the 10 when one came into view....maybe get a m1a some day, but the 10 is also very-very accurate...who knows armalite is right on the ball when it comes to parts and service....hav`nt bothered with mags yet, still using the two ten rounders it came with.........[:)]
