I was reading StyerAUG's post about the '03 starting his family's collection. This made me think of something similar...

I thought about what gun got me hooked on firearms? My father's little M1 Carbine that he bought from the NRA started it for me. That little Inland started a life long habit!

Needless to say, Which gun got you hooked?

Hooked? My dad's trusty Red Rider. Other than that either an old WWII PP or the 10/22 my great uncle left me when he passed away in 1980. I was in a gun store back about two weeks looking to replace the Ted Williams/Sears scope when it struck me that I had owned that for 22 years next month.

Mosin Nagant M44. Russian 7.62x54R ammo thru a 20" barrel and a steel butt plate. This was the first rifle that I purchased and gave me new respect for the Russian soldiers of WWII.

After that, I was hooked on all rifles military and especially Russian military. Next came the SKS, the AK, and on....and on...

I'll have to say my Dad's 92FS. Used it to qualify for my CHL, and then bought a USP compact .40 SS soon after. That one got me REALLY hooked.

The term "hooked" didn't occur until I fired the first shot from my 1989 Remington 700 BDL AS in 7mm Rem.Mag.
THAT was the moment I'd been waiting for!
I didn't know it until I fired that shot, but, man-0-man, that's what I thought a rifle oughtta feel like when it went off!

It wasn't my first firearm, but, it was the one that HOOKED me.

An H&R break open in 38 Smith and Wesson. That's like a 38 regular. Not as powerful as a 38 spl. Probably a good heavy jacket would stop this round but it was a real fun plinker. Still have the reloading dies for it.

I can remember when I was about five years old I had a double barrel pop gun that had strings attached to it with corks that would go in the barrel. When you shot it the corks would come flying out. Then it was a pop gun that I could stick in the ground and fill with dirt and shoot out. Then it was a BBGun and so on.

When I was about 5 years old, we went camping in the desert and my Dad let me shoot one of his guns for the first time (that I can remember anyway). It was a Sentinel Hi-Standard 9 shot .22. He still has it and I still love to shoot it.

It had to be the Red Ryder BB gun my dear old pappy gave me for Christmas when I was but a wee lad of nine. I started shooting anything I could. Inside, Outside, it didn't matter a whole lot to me! Mom on the other hand....

My grandfather's 1903A3 that him and my dad taught me to shoot with. I still have it. The wood is cut back, the barrel is shot-out, and it groups minute-of-garbage-can-lid but I will
[b]NEVER[/b] get rid of it.

Shot a few, then Grandaddy gave me a Savage .22 LR/20 gauge over and under.

What a cool weapon...If I saw the rabbit or squirrel sitting still, I'd pop it with the .22. If I scramble the rabbit or squirrel I could use the shotgun barrel to get em on the run...

Damn, exwife hocked it along with about 4 other weapons when I dumped her.......[V]

Good ol' Daisy Red Rider.
The day I got it, Christmas Day, I was out back shooting some cans and 2 liter bottles... basically whatever I could find to shoot. My grandfather came outside and told me that if I could hit the bottom of the coke can (lying down), he'd give me a dollar. Well, low and behold, I won that dollar and ever since I have been addicted to shooting and owning firearms.

Ruger M77 Mark II in 300 Winchester Magnum. Will never forget the first day of shooting that one. Felt it for the next week [sniper].

For handguns it is a Taurus 44 Remington Magnum [pistol]. Of course with those 2 it didn't take me long to get into reloading [:D].

A Feather AT-22 .22LR, the first couple of firearms were a 9mm semi-auto and a 12 gauge for protection but the Feather was for fun... a couple of dozen pistols and rifles later I've slowed down.

The first gun that got me to believe I needed my own was a .22 Ruger. My friend's brother-in-law owned it. We went shooting out in Elfin Forrest area. The gun that sent me over the edge to buy one was a Browning Hi-Power with Waffen SS stampings that a friend at work had in his collection (excellent condition BTW). Since he was an FFL, I promptly ordered a .22 Ruger bull barrel and, yes, a Browning Hi-Power.

Had been carrying shotguns for a while, but became a rifleman when my dad gave me his marlin model 60 to begin coon hunting.A ten dollar dog, a free rifle, and all the ammo I could afford to buy. Spent hours plinking. Still own it, still love to plink with it, wouldn't sell it for the world.

Winchester 52B and a Perazzi TM1. The Perazzi helped instill a love of shooting and the 52 helped me appreciate accuracy. The downward spiral has brought me a .17 Rem and I just ordered my first custom wildcat chambered rifle last week.

I fear there is no cure but a bit of burning gunpowder will satiate my addiction.

An SKS got me into guns. I was all excited 'bout dem 'til I started scoping out the AR15s and M1As.

Now, I have all three plus the famed FAL.

Of course, I also have a 10/22.

Sigs are my choice for pistols.

When I was a child my dad had an old Winchester .22 bolt gun, a .38 revolver, and a sporterized No. 5 Mk. I Enfield. I've liked guns pretty much as long as I can remember, but the gun that really sticks in my head belonged to my mother's uncle Billy.

Billy had a number of guns, but one he kept in a rack on the wall next to his recliner was a sporterized '94 Swedish Mauser. It had a full-length Mannlicher stock in birdseye Maple with a rollover cheekpiece, a butterknife bolt handle, and a funky muzzle brake endcap. I can remember staring at that thing as a little tyke. I still want that gun. It belongs to a cousin now, but I'll get it eventually. Somehow.

My Grandfather died when I was very young, but he told My Father to make sure I kept his WWI issue Colt 1911 in the family.[b] It saved his ass.[/b]
When I was a boy my father would take out the old .45 and show it to me.
"Someday, this will be yours"
I learned to take it apart and put it back together blindfolded.
When we went target shooting, I always wanted to shoot the 1911, I wanted to master it.
I knew, When I turned 18 it would be mine.
Today the old .45 is locked away, but I still love to shoot 1911's and everything else that goes bang.

I still remember the day I caught hoplophilia. I was 5 years old and we were in the sporting goods section of a Grant's department store when my dad handed me a Daisy Beginners Rifle. It was basically a Red Ryder with a different stock. I brought the butt up to my shoulder and I've been suffering ever since.

My dad had guns for as long as I can remember but the one that did me in was the brand new P-85 Ruger that he bought when I was 8. That gun is long gone now but it started a fire in me that has cost me a whole lot more money than I think he intended it to.
