SAN FRANCISCO (CNN) -- Eunice Simpson, the mother of NFL football legend and one-time murder defendant O.J. Simpson, died Friday.
San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office spokesman Alan Pringle confirmed that Simpson, 80, died this morning from natural causes at her home in San Francisco.
Pringle said the elder Simpson had suffered from heart disease.
Eunice Simpson was often a fixture in the courtroom in 1995, when her son was tried and acquitted on double-murder charges for the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.
More recently, Simpson was acquitted of charges stemming from a road rage incident with another motorist near his new home in Miami, Florida.
