My wife make fish taco's that are far and above better than anything being offered locally. (mind you this is calif.) We use either red snapper or halibit that my son catches. (he works a fishing boat)

Always add your own tartar sauce, never let someone else add it.

There's a local place that makes them...  Grilled tilapia on a corn tortilla with coleslaw-like fixins.  It's been a long time since I've had them, but I remember them being pretty good.

You guys are amazing.

Get your freaking minds out of the gutter.

What kind of fish does it use? USe cod cooked like fish and chips and wrap it up in a tortilla with a fiery hot ranch style sauce ummmm
3/14/2008 12:01:21 PM EDT
[#10]
I order them everywhere I can.  The best I've had were at a little mom and pop mexican restruant in Colorado Springs called Amanda's Fonda.  They deep fried the fish, I think, and the taste was just perfect.

"Fish taco" doesn't even sound right.

I'll just go find a hooker if I want a fish taco.

They're great. Had 'em restaurants a few times, including one little tiny hole in the wall place that had the best I've had. We made some at home recently. We're still sorting out the sauce, though what we made wasn't bad.

Funny thing is, mention fish tacos to most people and they think you're talking dirty . . .

You know what else is really good? Sweet and sour fish at the Chinese place . . .

Baja and Sonoran Style....yummyyyy.

I first had fish tacos during a party trip to Ensenada Mexico.

Too bad no one knows how to really make a good fish taco here in TX. All we have is crappy prison food...errr...I mean TexMex.

Yumm...

Carlos Murphy's

Rubio's

Aberto's, Roberto's, any of the 'To's... especially the fish burrito's with lots of pico de gallo salsa...

Tilapia is ok, but only because you can usually find it farm fresh  most places away from the ocean.

What you really need is something closer to sea bass or halibut, fresh off the boat.

I love fish tacos.  The Baja Fresh chain restaurant actually has some decent ones.

I used to freak out my old boss with them though - she would turn green and yell every time I ate them -- so I ate them often

You leave your damn kalifornia mexican food tastes out of this thread!

But seriously, fish tacos are good and I imagine that the ones prepared on the left coast are excellent.

Prison food, sheesh.

I used to live a few blocks from the Brig on Shelter Island, yes they did good fish facos, couple of those and an order of calamari and several BrigBrews YEAH!!

We've been making fish tacos for 30+ years, gotta use beer batter, shredded cabbage and the white sauce is 1/2 mayo and 1/2 plain yogurt.

I was just telling a guy at work today about making some fish tacos using crappie or sand bass, I guess they're supposed to start bitting soon in the creeks flowing into Ray Hubbard.

We used to make them out of Barracuda.  Sometimes out of carp.

Note:  Barracuda should always be in caps,  democrat never should be.

First time I had fish tacos was in San Diego.    Then I had it in Reno.  Finally, I've found a place in both San Francisco and Oakland.  Fish tacos rule!
